Dragon designs for the Donquixote siblings!

In the Sails and Scales AU, there are a lot of thoughts amongst world nobles about what a noble born dragon should look like. One of the bigger ideals is a proper noble, especially a celestial dragon, should just have scales. Due to this, It isn’t uncommon for hatchlings to be plucked or otherwise altered to fit in should they be born with feathers.

The blessing of a Donquixote dragon finally being born after generations without one became troubling at the first appearance of feathers. While not the biggest factor, the siblings being born with feathers did help push Homing to move away from Mary Geoise. Especially when it became clear Rosinante had far more.

As part of his bid to get accepted back into Mary Geoise, Doflamingo did pluck his feathers and even severed the tip of his tail. Despite failing he does keep up with the practice and later insists Rosinante does the same. Rosi isn’t quite as extreme, partially due to naturally having more feathers and also the fact his are stronger/harder to remove after being fully grown in adult plumage. Most are clipped instead of truly plucked.

The coats both brothers wear when humans are in part made from their shed/plucked feathers.

Other than Luffy, these are the only strawhats with dragon forms this au!

Being a dragon is simply a trait people have in this au, though there is some debate on who falls under ‘true dragons.’ This is because Celestial Dragons have strict standards on what counts as a true or Noble Dragon. While dragons that fit such standards are relatively rare, dragons in general are more common than devil fruits, even in the blues. Dragons have a ‘human’ form with just horns and tails, and a full dragon form.

Somewhat genetic, it can skip generations seemingly at random and appear in bloodlines after a draconic ancestor is long forgotten. There are even cases of the trait presenting differently among twins. Rarely, dragon blood will still show in the physical traits of someone who cannot shift but it’s most commonly an all or nothing deal.
