The Happiness Project
“Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions.” ― Dalai Lama XIV “Time you enjoy wasting is not wasted time.” ― Marthe Troly-Curtin, Phrynette Married Personal Reflection
Since starting this book, I have been constantly asking myself, “What makes me happy?”
My answer - I don’t know
I hate this answer. I want to be able to say something, but the truth is there is no ONE thing that makes me happy.
I am happy when:
I see others happy I see my family and friends achieve their goals I get my paycheck I am dancing I am able to get a good nights rest I finished another semester with school
There are so many variations of happiness and such a wide range. We are all capable of finding happiness.
It is our own wrongdoings that make us unhappy. Ex. Failed school because I didn’t attend class
I think I always prevented myself from being happy because I was lazy or thought I needed money to make a change or just didn’t actually want to admit something was wrong.
The first thing I have started doing is working on my list of things that I don’t like about myself, things I want to change, and things that easily upset me. Although I am not brave enough to post the list on my blog, it is something I am actively working on and feel myself taking baby steps.
What I enjoyed about this book/project - Because it falls at the end of the year, this is helping me to prepare for my New Year’s resolutions, and I am feeling very optimistic about this upcoming year.
Goals I have already started on; Stop self biases, Recognize happiness, Take small steps, Be active and get rid of energy suckers (constant work in progress), Work on myself - approach things with a positive attitude.
In the back of the book there were 4 different sections that I have been copying and I found very useful; The Happiness Project Manifesto, 8 pages of life tips, Secrets of adulthood, and Paradoxes of Happiness. This is something I recommend everyone to read, or at least take a look over.
These days social media has such a large influence on a person, I know it does for me, so looking at sites like Instagram or Facebook might make a person start comparing their life to what they are looking at, DON’T.
I found this to be my biggest negative factor weighing down my happiness. Yes it is nice to dream about what you could have, but you know what would be better? Working your butt off, not comparing, and achieving that goal on your own.
There is a site I follow on Instagram, and coincidentally I was looking at my Instagram feed and I saw this post from them come up:
Happiness is contagious, shared joy = double joy.
