Morpheus knew that look all too well -- it was an enticing, impossibly wicked expression that Alyssa was wearing more and more these days. Her netherling side was most assuredly active. This only furthered his frustration, his insatiable lusting for the taste of her lips and the sensation of her immaculate, pale skin against his own.  “Oh, really?” He slipped closer to her, his eyes hazy and undecipherable. There was a clear challenge in his posture and tone of voice. “And why not?”

      His particular service industry was always in swing even when it was on the verge of collapse. People wanted dreams and they wanted an escape, and he was, of course, a man more than willing to give that for the right price. A Savior was always available to those in need of his services, and he wasn’t going to give up that name.

     His tall form leaned against a wall, smoke curling around him as he watched bodies pass him. He had to mindful of those that passed, search out for any that might be interested in what he offered. Sometimes they were easy to spot, but on occasion, he had to branch out and take a chance. Apparently it was going to be one of those times.

     Savior pushed himself up and flicked his cigarette away, crushing it beneath a heavy boot before he walked forward. There was one that stood out to him and that was usually a good option to try. He moved swiftly and quietly, coming up beside another male that seemed out of place. “You seem heavy.” He said offhandedly, voice low and smoothly dripping with practiced charm.

It was forbidden for a netherling to venture into the mortal world fully exposed and glamour-free. He implemented a human disguise -- as was common practice. No longer was he ‘Morpheus’, the wisest creature in all of Wonderland, but instead the living image of a young street artist who he happened to meet at a gallery in London. His human glamour was a tad simple compared to what he was accustomed. He had deep set eyes that were a pleasing sky blue, and black hair cascading over his jaw like a pair of brilliant raven’s wings.

Anyone with an eye for enchantment would see right through it, but humans were easily deceived. Their feeble minds scarcely broke through a netherling’s perfected illusion. And while it was dull in comparison to his truest self, it served its purpose well enough: giving him the chance to find a distraction.  Enduring the loss of his once-beloved,  Alyssa, was too much to bear. Being in Wonderland only served as a permanent reminder that she was gone forever.. The vibrant sky reminded him of her eyes and how the pitchforks of bursting constellations glowed inside them, like swelling balls of wonder. Oh, for the endlessly oceans of wonder that her doll-like lashes ensnared. How he missed her. Even visiting her in her dreams, a once favorite pastime of his, was too painful.  The time had come to find something else to think do. A distraction, he figured, was the very solution his heartbreak required to heal. Morpheus spared no expense on dressing up his human disguise a bit; he amped up his usually eccentric attire in hopes of making up for his painfully plain appearance. And he found it was most effective, happily receiving the bewildered stares of strangers as he skirted through the streets.  Such simpleminded creatures. They possessed all the stealth and cunning of a turkey. This made being aware of their actions all too easy for a netherling. Before his visitor had even approached, he was steeling himself for interaction. His eyes, the same pale blue shade as Alyssa’s, darted to meet his gaze just as he spoke.

“You seem heavy.” 

Morpheus didn’t stop walking. With a grand sweep of his arm, he invited the fellow to continue along his side. His stride was brisk for a man with an ornate walking stick.“Tut, tut. Heavy? What a thing to say to a man you’ve only just met,” he spoke cheerfully. “You’re either a bad judge of character, or entirely starved for business. Judging by the looks of you, I’d wager it’s the latter. Or have I missed the mark entirely?”

Visiting Alyssa’s dreams was often the highlight of his otherwise dreary life in Wonderland. Though he loved his home the way it was, brimming with madness, her absence brought on an all-consuming discontent. The void left in her place often swelled like furious, salty ocean waves, crashing over his head until his throat tightened and burned. Suffocating. This particularly dream was set in, of course, Wonderland. He was teasing her with gentle tugs at her silken, blonde tresses of hair. “Aw, luv,” he cooed, licking his lips mischievously. “Don’t get in a snit.” His fingers wound her hair around themselves affectionately.
