Stay out of my queer romance, Sharon
Gay men, the stars of these romances, aren’t the intended audience. Straight women are. So where does that leave gay men? Again, supporting straight women’s desires.
That’s a truth right there. Also includes a lot of gay art. Basically everything which forces one of the guys clearly into the female role. (Case in point: 95% of the slash art made of Link and Sidon from Zelda Breath of the Wild)
There are however, a few female artists who really capture the essence of actual gay relationships and even without resorting to the equally annoying stereotypes of most actually made for LGBT media. The issue there is that a lot of actual gay movies seem to know and mix only three tropes: Hot party guys fucking like rabbits, married guy desperately cheating on wife with usually hot younger dude and of course HIV drama.
You have to scroll down to the bloody 13th position to find a book written by a male author!
They pick up two rubber dolls with penises, they make them copulate like a straight couple, the anus works perfectly like a vagina (I found a manga where the anus of the bottom oozed like a lubricating vulva, EW!) and then they start arguing like two drama queens because the author is too lazy to give them an actual plot.
It looks like cultural appropriation. Trying to prescribe us like we should live love and sex, accordingly to Hollywood Romanticism.
We must develop our own culture, and being treated like the beaus, the sycophants of the dominant straight Queen&King couple does not help us.
And it does not help either straight women.
It is also worth noting that a lot of male gay novel authors use female names as they sell better.

That’s why the “Meta” Series was written. By a (gay) man, for (gay) men, about (gay) men. What female writer would create submissive marines? ;-).

^ Lots of submissive marines, and police officers, baseball players, and wolves …
Blushing.
