A month, thatâs how long it was since Annabethâs first therapy appointment. She was getting better but she needed to stop going. It was starting to take a toll on her wallet and yes, Percy offered to help pay but she was still trying not to use his money.
There was some things that he would help pay for: rent (especially since they moved into their new apartment) and food. She wasnât ready to let go of her being independent. Her therapist told her that she needed to be a little more dependent on Percy with some things that needed to get paid for James.
Not only that, Luke was starting to get on her nerves about not seeing James as much as he would like. She tried, truly tried to bring him to see him at least once a week but he wanted to see him more. Now she possibly had a custody issue on her hands.Â
The only thing that brought some light into her stress was that Percy and herâs six month anniversary was coming up. As she looked back on their relationship, it felt a bit rushed. They moved in together very quickly but thatâs because she couldnât afford renting the apartment by herself anymore. And James starts kindergarten in September, he needed a better school to go to.Â
She didnât know how to show Percy how much she appreciated everything heâs done and how much she loved him.Â
âHey there.â Percy greeted as he came into the apartment. He just taught swim lessons and smelled like chlorine. âWhereâs James?â
âOh, heâs with Luke.â She replied. âI took him after his lesson and shower. I know you told me to have more confidence in Luke and Iâm trying.â
Percy walked over and gave her a kiss. âI know. If you want, I can go pick him up later. Then James and I can get some dinner to bring home.â
âNo, I can do it.â She told him. âHeâs my s-â
âHeâs also mine.â Percy told her. âNot legally but I feel like heâs mine too. You need to let go a little bit. How about you call Piper and have a girls night? Itâll let you relax and you can have fun. You remember having fun right?â
She slightly glared at him. She could have fun. She always had fun with her son. âFine. Iâll call Piper.â

Percy went to go pick up James from Lukeâs place. It was the first time that he would go to Lukeâs by himself. He was slightly nervous that Luke might tear him apart, but he wouldnât do anything in front of James.
He got to Lukeâs room and knocked on the door, the receptionist told him that he was in his room.Â
The door opened and Thalia smiled at him  âHello Percy.â
âHi Thalia.â He smiled back before entering the room.Â
James and Luke were playing with trains. A railroad track was going around the room and James was crawling around to make his trains got around the track.
âHey bud.â Percy greeted.Â
James looked up and smiled. He went over and hugged Percyâs legs. Percy rubbed his back.
Luke looked at Percy. There was slight jealousy in his eyes as James hugged his legs. Percy knew that Luke wanted that, wanted James to be excited to see him and go home with him.
âLuke, itâs nice to see you.â Percy smiled a bit. âHow are you doing?â
âFine. How are you?â Percy could tell he was trying not to meet his eyes.
âGood. Annabeth really appreciate you watching him.â Percy told him. âAnd James is always excited to see you.â
âYeah, Iâm always excited to see him too.â Luke replied. âIs he coming again soon?â
âOh. Uh, I donât know when Annabeth is planning to bring him back.â He replied honestly.
âShe needs to bring him to me more. If she doesnât bring him back within a week, Iâm going to take her to court for custody.â
âHeâs my son and I have a right to see him.â He stood up and looked Percy in the eyes now. âMore than once maybe in two weeks for only two to four hours. Itâs not fair to me or James.â
Percy looked at Thalia. âCan you take James out for a bit? I just need to talk to Luke alone.â
Thalia was hesitant for a second before getting James to follow her outside.
Percy looked at Luke. He could see the broken guy that came back from war and the guy who was deprived from his son. His eyes were duller now that James left the room and were looking at Percy for some hope.
âPercy, I just want to see my son more. Heâs been my light to get through everything in my life. I just want to see him more. Canât you tell Annabeth that?â
âI will.â Percy promised. âBut Annabeth has been going through a lot of changes. Sheâs having a hard time at work, sheâs been stressed out about not having enough money, and she went to therapy to talk about other things I donât know about. I donât know if sheâs comfortable with leaving him with you more than she already is.â
âThen she should expect something from my lawyer. Cause this is ridiculous! First she throws away our marriage-â
âShe thought you were dead. She was trying to move on and wasnât expecting you to come back into her life!â Percy argued. âWhen she first saw you-â
âI still had hope that she would come back to me, even if she was dating you.â Luke told him. He was starting to break, Percy knew that, and Percy couldnât see a broken man.
âShe doesnât want that. She loves me and I love her right back more than anything in the world. James is like a son to me and I want whatâs best for him.âÂ
âAnd you donât think Iâm whatâs best for him?â Luke asked. âHis own father isnât even good enough for him?â
Percy didnât know how to reply to that. He only knew James for six months and even so, he didnât know much about what James or Annabeth was like before those six months.
âI thought so.â Luke glared. âTell Annabeth that sheâll be hearing from my lawyer.â
Percy took that as his cue to leave. He opened the door and got James before going to get dinner. He just added another layer of stress to Annabeth that she didnât need and he felt horrible.
