Outlander: Unfinished Business Review
I honest to God don't even remember the last time I was on this site, but given that there's new episodes of Outlander, and I have thoughts, I thought I'd start doing reviews again. And be forewarned, I am a book reader, so this may contain upcoming spoilers (I will tag it as such).
Pros:
I may be in the minority, but I actually really like the new Jenny. I absolutely adored Laura's version, but I actually appreciate that Kristin Atherton is sticking closer to book Jenny than Laura Donnelly did. Jenny still has a certain toughness about her, but I feel like Kristin is giving her a softer edge as well, which makes sense because as people age, many do become softer.
Jamie and Claire being back at Lallybroch felt just like coming home from an audience perspective. The scene in the Laird's room where they were reminiscing were so heartwarming.
Seeing all of Jenny and Ian's brood was a welcome surprise, I wasn't expecting to see so many Murray's.
All of the scenes with older Ian absolutely broke my heart, but I really loved them. He is going to be so missed, which is a testament to how well Steven Cree plays him because he is one of my favourite characters.
Laoghaire's "happy" ending. She has never been a favourite character of mine, but she's been put through a lot of shit over the years, so I am glad to see she was able to find someone to love,
Although I knew it was coming, seeing Brian Fraser again made me so happy. I liked his interactions with Roger, just wish Brianna could have been there as well.
The ending with Geilis was an amazing cliffhanger. I cannot wait to see her, Buck, Roger and Dougal next week. This storyline is unhinged in a hilarious way.
Cons:
Roger's voiceover. I don't usually mind voiceovers, but this one just felt out of place to me.
I wish we could have had more scenes with Jenny and Claire this go around. I just really love their relationship and how complicated it is. I'm really hoping the show will follow the book and bring Jenny to Fraser's Ridge eventually.
Jamie and Claire's lack of goodbye. I just felt like they didn't really get a proper goodbye this goaround, especially given what is coming and the separation once again.
All in all I'd give this episode an 8.5/10. It was well done and had a lot of nods to the book, which I really appreciate. I have high hopes for the rest of this season and can't wait to see what's to come, even knowing that it will break me.

You ask me if there’ll come a time, when I grow tired of you, never my love.
CAITRIONA BALFE
Harper Bazaar 2020
I know there was no obvious cliffhanger at the end of 5x12, but why is hardly no one mentioning that picture of the house burning that Claire is staring at during the first part of the 60s scenes. If that is not definite foreshadowing, I don’t know what is.
They’re changing so many things around it seems like. I’m guessing season 6 will have elements of both ABOSA and Echo, although a lot of ABOSA seems to have already happened.
Claire’s abduction and rape storyline in ABOSA is about the most traumatizing thing I’ve ever read in a book, i’m just praying that it is only a very small part of the show because having there be a cliffhanger and then having it drag out for multiple episodes next season would be about the dumbest thing the show could do. I have no doubt Cait would be amazing in the storyline, but I don’t wish to see it. I am praying this is all wrapped up in one episode and that the season cliff hanger is something un-related to this.
Before 5x12 airs
Does anyone actually have any theories as to what goes down in the finale? I mean, I’ve read the books so I have a pretty good idea (and I know we are going to be emotionally destroyed), but i’m just curious as to what others might think.
One thing that really stands out to me is that when Sam and Caitriona talk about the finale, they both say they took a big risk filming it. I’m not really sure what they mean and I’m a little scared to find out. This show has shown plenty of violence (sexual and otherwise), so I am guessing that’s not the risk. I’m thinking the show may go off book again though and I’m not sure how to feel about that.
I got to thinking Jamie and Claire’s lack of proper goodbye to Bree/Roger/Jem on the show makes me definitely think that their plan to go back to the future was unsuccessful and that they will be involved in finding Claire.
I haven’t done one of these in a lonnnng time
but this episode was just begging for a reaction post.
Things I liked/loved:
1) The part at the beginning where they show the burning cabin and the girl who had been scalped and left for dead, also left for dead, absolutely broke my heart. I should say I didn’t like this part, just that it was foreshadowing which I thought was interesting.
2) I loved the way they tied up the Ulysses storyline, it was much better than the books.
3)John showing up to give Jamie news about William <3
4)The Jamie and Brianna scene was everything I’d hoped for, yet we lacked all season. Hopefully season 6 brings more!
5)I loved the Brianna/ John scene. These two have such a sweet relationship and I love how interested Brianna is in meeting her brother. Hopefully she gets to meet him in the not so distant future.
6)The scene with Jemmy and Ian was so cute. The twins who play Jemmy are beyond adorable. The casting directors do an amazing job of choosing children to play these roles. The little boy who plays Germaine (Robbie I think is his name??), is amazing as well.
7) That Jamie and Claire scene at the window ledge was beautiful and hot. I also loved the iconic microscope scene, though I thought it was seriously cut short.
8) Bree/ Lizzie: that goodbye ripped my heart in two. I love their friendship.
9) The PB & J scene was all kinds of awesome...Jamie eating a sandwich with a fork and knife just about killed me lol.
10) The last Bree/Roger scene...wtf?? I’m so interested to see what they see. I’m thinking they don’t actually make it back through the stones this go around. I think that would be too much of a leap even for these writers. I mean they would basically be writing out Mandy’s entire storyline (which I’m sure most book readers like me would hate), and it really makes no sense for them to go back now. I’m thinking maybe they somehow see what is happening with Jamie and Claire and somehow Roger still manages to help save Claire.
11) The last scene with Claire’s kidnapping...soooo well acted. I was covering my eyes because I know what is coming and its killing me. Jamie’s cries for Claire just did me in. Great cliffhanger, as awful as this storyline will be too watch.
Things I didn’t care for:
1) Ian’s wanting to go back through the stones to save his family, but being unable too :( That’s just heartbreaking.
2) How rushed Bree/Roger’s exit storyline seemed. I still really don’t believe this is when they go back to the future. There’s still too much important story to tell there, plus there’s Mandy to think of. If they choose to leave her out, I know most of us will be hugely disappointed.
3 The Brown’s storyline in general. I really hated their story in the book and for some reason it seemed even worse on the show. Maybe its just because they changed it so much??
4) Claire’s kidnapping and the consequences that follow. Books readers know what happens and its awful. I know that its a way to drive more stories forward and that its a character developing storyline for Claire, but honestly I hate it, and I hate even more that the show didn’t just leave it out. On the bright side, I know Caitriona will absolutely rock this storyline and I cannot wait for Jamie to rescue Claire.
For now, I know more or less what direction I want to go, but I do not want to have a clear strategy. If you schedule everything, you risk being disappointed, while I always took my best decisions without thinking at them. I let myself be surprised and, when there are challenges, I took them up. For the moment, they were right choices. I have no regrets.
Happy Birthday Caitriona Balfe (October 4th,1979)
Sorry to say, I am leaving this fandom...
I know to most people on here, I am a no one. I look at the Outlander tag everyday and occasionally post something I like or find interesting. I sometimes post my episode reviews, but other than that, I havent had much to do with the Tumblr fandom. The only reason I am posting this is because of my reasoning.
I am sick to death of people, mostly grown women from what I can gather, fighting over whether or not a couple is or isn't together. It is ridiculous. I don't ship real life couples anymore for these very reasons. Whether or not Sam and Caitriona are together or were ever together, does not matter. As adults, we need to take what they say at face value. If they say they aren't together, leave it at that and move on. Their relationship, whatever it is, does not affect you. Don't call them out on social media and say they are lying and hurting one another because that is ignorant. They are still friends, just as they have always been. They are co-stars and will continue to be at least for another couple of years.
My point is, ship who you want to ship, thats not the issue. But be smart about it. Talk about, vent about it, but leave the actors alone. There's a reason they are much quieter on social media than they used to be, because of shit like this. They can't do or say anything without someone taking it out of context.
To those of you who post such amazing things like fanart and fanfiction...thank you! I will continue to look and read it where I can, other than Tumblr. Its been a really fun ride.
Please don't send me hate. I am not blaming any one side. There's things going on on both sides that make it hard to take. I don't condone bullying in any way shape or form.
how do you feel about Lea covering up the If You Say So tattoo. Personally I haven't followed her since 2014 when she started dating that gigalo guy months after losing Cory but my friend told me about her being in Hawaii for some movie and saw the pic. I'm just completely irritated because it's like she doesn't care anymore
Honestly I don't really follow her personal life anymore so...
