Youth's Power: Global Citizen
Global is a broad scope — the population is not exclusive inside your home, neither the province nor country you live in. Globally, there are various cultures, beliefs, traditions, and fashions for every country — this is where diversity takes place and where certain conflicts happen especially in the past.
Take a look at how different religion has divided us — is ignoring that gap making you a global citizen? Is not understanding one’s culture makes you a citizen of the world? A global citizen is one that is aware of the world and not just a small area where one resides. Let us face the reality that there are some countries that look down on other countries' cultures, beliefs, and religions — the misconceptions are passed down to generations, yet, there is this tiny change that has been felt. I remember watching an interview with Jasper Iturriaga a Christian Philanthropist, he goes to different countries just to help and when he got to the United States of America, he got deported due to his record of going to so many Muslim countries — now this is a sad reality.
As a global citizen, you are one who understands other people’s beliefs, religion, sense of style, or whatever there is that identifies them. Let us go back to where I mentioned that there is a tiny change that has been felt — YES. Look around you, look how diverse and how this generation accepts diversity, this positive change has the ability to address that issue regarding the gap of having diversity. They help one another in order to make a difference — a difference that is humane.
The internet plays a role in opening this generation’s minds wherein they are introduced that each country is unique, yet we all are still humans living in this world. Each one has an identity that is different from the others. Not only does this applies to cultures or religions, but this also applies to gender — this generation accepts and respects whatever gender you have.
We may be divided in the past, but a humane change is happening where acceptance and respect are present in order to make this world a better place. Indeed the voice of youth has the power to change the entire world, a positive and humane change is in their hands.
