Final Collection Artwork Piece
In the first photograph, I had just begun my piece. I started sketching out my piece by simply creating an outline of all of the items in my inspiration picture, that being the final edited composition picture. This whole process was free hand, where I simply copied what was on my computer screen. I did not start adding any shading because I knew I wanted my primary medium to be sharpie because of their bold colours. Colour being such a prominent component of my collection, sharpies seemed fit.
I continued working on my base and i got around halfway done before I took it home to work on it and accidentally left it on the bus. This meant that I had to start the whole piece over, hence the reason I do not have many process pictures-the entire piece was completed within the span of a day and a half.
I used the projector to trace the shape of each of the items in my picture in order to speed up the process. From there I spent the rest of the day colouring the entire piece with sharpie, which when completed left it quite two-dimensional. I then replicated the shadows from the inspiration on the original image which made the whole piece have more depth. Once all the shading was complete, I added replicas of some of the items I drew, such as stickers, on top of the actual piece.
I discovered a lot about my skill development through the process of this piece. I experimented with different forms of media and drawing techniques that I had never thought of trying, and my final artwork became a composition of both sharpie and pencils. I had never used sharpie to create an actual art piece before, and it was fairly easy to use as it is very opaque so it was able to perform the tasks that I needed it to, such as fill in the bright colours. I think that my final piece came out very interesting and cool using a combination of different techniques and mediums that I had never thought to try together and turned out to work very well together.
I think that my final artwork was successful both aesthetically and emotionally. The objects are bright and cartoonish with realistic elements which was similar to my inspiration image. There are different textures which were able to be created using sketching pencils which I think was successful because of the vast differences of each item.
Emotionally, my piece is successful because it conveys my goal theme of being reminiscent in both a happy and emotional way. All the objects are items that I collected during the summer, which is a time that I enjoy to look back upon.
I think that I could have improved on the consistency of the shading throughout the piece. The left side is definitely more detailed with both the shading and the colouring and the right side begins to fade quite a lot in colour and shading. Next time I may have distributed the items more evenly so that it would be easier to create the shadowing throughout and the whole image looked more unified.
