13 Artists You Need To Know About In 2017 7. Michele Nox Our former Toronto intern, Kelsey, put me onto Montreal singer-songwriter Michele Nox, whose 2016 album Monolith is a compelling mix of cavernous distortion and aching acoustic folk. I saw her open for Tanya Tagaq in a church a couple of months ago; she stood in front of a synthesizer wearing thigh high boots and a wrap-tie robe that kept sliding off one shoulder, the spotlight made her shaved head glow like the moon. Visually captivating, and musically unforgettable. — ANUPA MISTRY The FADER
Girl’s Club interviews MICHELE NOX The lights go on, and there She stands in purple velvet thigh-high boots. The music begins, and Her voice is power at its rawest susceptivity. From my seat I hold Her darkness, renewing into pure light. Michele Nox is the harrowing superstar of transcendental pop music. Her recent release Monolith is wrought with harmonious dualities, and I was curious about how She wields such magic with Her voice....
Thank you Simon Fortin!!! love it!!

Michele's music resonates in the aching heart, but it is a well far deeper than simple romance. Her songs evoke the agony of love, the obsessions and self-destruction of the ego, the vain longing for meaning. Whether backed by raw guitar or awash in transcendent electronic swells, Michele’s voice is the constant. It is that piercing light in the fog, beckoning you to take the risk of feeling deeply.
“I used to be afraid of using my voice, so I would drown it in effects. Now instead of shielding and putting up masks, I want to be heard."
Michele has an extensive and growing catalog of collaborative projects, including runway soundtracks for fashion designer Rad Hourani, projects with house producer Jacques Greene, and a NOWNESS feature video with creative director Melissa Matos.

The Montreal alternative pop artist shares the track’s remix and B-side.
Montreal's Michele Nox grapples with letting go on “Mono.” The track is taken from Michele’s September full length LP, Monolith, and the song’s distorted mix and a B-side cover of the American soul standard “Fever” are premiering today on The FADER.The alt-pop musician builds a warped, discordant soundscape and lyrically reconciles with a lover who was undeserving of her love. Nox intimately examines how infatuation makes humans do funny things: You’re no good, no good for me, I let you fuck me so good, so good baby. For her, the heart is in constant conflict with the mind when the person you fall for is detrimental to your well-being. The rework of “Mono” pulls back on the layered sound of the original, striking the root of the pained experience she’s reliving.“'Mono is about finding the strength to let go of something that keeps you from personal growth,” Michele wrote in an email to The FADER. “Surrendering to the lessons life will throw at you when you lose a soul mate, and with them your mind. It came to me at a time when infatuation over powered my journey towards self respect. I was left pining over someone who cannot offer the love I am worthy of. 'Mono' reminds me that being single isn't so bad after all. The FADER
