Swingin' 60s: Classic ad for Clarks 1949 'dezzie boots'
i had a pair of these from spain looked exactly like this in green. and i loved these shoes i mean they were so comfy and folky and went with all my suede and cordoruy outfits. they started to get worn down and were sopping up the nyc moisture on the street everytime it rained which was horrifying. so i decided to take them to the cobbler, since i'm always preaching about fixing garments/shoes if you can instead of disposing of them
i go to the nearest cobbler a few blocks down and drop them off and I let the guy know. hey, i just want the hole at the ball of the foot fixed, i don't tell him theres also a weird thing happening with the sole at the heel but I'll get that done later. its less pressing thats not where the water is coming in!
it was 40 dollars whatever whatever I drop them off and go to pick them up the next week. the guy informs me, hey there was also hole at the heel. i'm like oh no worries I'll get that fixed later when I have the budget. i walk back to my dorm. i open the bag up. i go to put the shoes on to admire them all fixed and new and huh. that feels weird. i take them off, there is a GIANT hole at the heel like HUGE 😠just unbelievably it looks like someone took a scooper snd went to town at the interior and revealed the inside of the sole. i was baffled. ended up having to throw them away, it was on both shoes !!!! absolutely devastating
if anyone knows whether this is a secret part of the cobblers process that damaged my shoe or if this guy scooped out the heel for fun... let me know ...
guess what I planted…
i have extreme one-sided beef with the guy that does most of the spoonful 'scholarship' and have for three years at this point ...

if i don't like your post its because i'm afraid of internet footprint and have been since I was 10 so i sort of have a weird leave minimal trace policy. and also most of the ppl im following are adjacent to s&g rpf and i subscribe to the theory but not the framework
also i've been pondering this for so long if you're a true s&ger please respond to this ...
how invested are you guys in the folk or folk rock scene? or is most of the community coming at their material from a lore standpoint? or is it more abt the popular music vibe (ambiguous classic rock umbrella ... )
i'm scared of this post sounding judgmental but I genuinely want to know bc i consider myself extremely grounded in folk rock as a concept ,, like down to the dates i'm just fascinated by that moment in music. but the interesting thing about s&g is they can be approached from soo many angles. and thats different from a group like the spoonful which is not as culturally broadly resonant ... am i just yapping

The Lovin' Spoonful - Daydream and Help!
A truly interesting woman to get this blog started: veteran character actress, sitcom regular, two-time Emmy winner and Oscar nominee Carol Kane, here seen as Gitl in Hester Street (1975, Joan Micklin Silver), Fatty’s Girl in Valentino (1977, Ken Russell), Annie in The World’s Greatest Lover (1977, Gene Wilder) and Ghost of Christmas Present in Scrooged (1988, Richard Donner).
i remember watching taxi as a kid and never really liking her character but seeing her in hester street she's absolutely amazing .... just incredible. also love to hear the yiddish and kind of not need captions (im lying i def still do)
