What I love is that Marcel doesn’t turn against the Mikaelsons for pride or power, like Lucien did. I know I was keeping a watchful eye on Marcel this season because of the displeasure he showed with Elijah sometimes, about how he didn’t want to be treated like “some kid” anymore, how he wanted to be treated equally… and I thought, if Marcel’s going to be the friend that turns against them, that’s going to be the reason why. But that wasn’t the case at all! Because every opportunity that Marcel had to betray the Mikaelsons this season (and there were quite a few!), he remained loyal. He might’ve been annoyed with the disdainful remarks of Elijah, but that was something he could deal with. It wasn’t something worth betraying your friends for, because loyalty is everything to Marcel. Marcel is just not that petty, he can things like that slide more easily. But when the Mikaelsons betray his loyalty, when they betray Davina, that’s when they lose Marcel. He doesn’t turn against them because of hunger for power or wounded pride. It isn’t about ego or arrogance or ambition, nor is it about dominance or superiority. It’s about loyalty, and most of all, about justice. He doesn’t even actively seek to become an enhanced Original, it’s Vincent that hands it to him, and he takes it because it gives him the opportunity to actually uphold that justice and ugh, I love this.
