What does creativity mean to me?
Creativity, to me, has two sides to it although they are both related.
First, there is practical application to creativity. It helps me in everyday life by coming up with novel and clever ways to solve problems. These ideas and solutions are something I can use to make my life easier.
Second, there is an artistic and expressive side to creativity. While this may not necessarily help with problem solving, I think it helps by nurturing the human spirit helping me pause, slow down, and take more things in. Creativity allows me to channel emotions I am feeling and put them into a tangible piece of work like a photograph, painting, etc. I can also channel these emotions and thoughts into everyday pieces of work; put my personal touch on things. Having a greater understanding of, or appreciation for, creativity also makes me pay more attention to the details of others people’s work, or even things occurring naturally in this world, instead of just glossing over them. More things become obvious. The finer details and subtleties are noticed and this gives me deeper appreciation.
