Hi, I'm Lumi, the person behind this account ! Today, I wanted to talk about how I came to see Miku as a goddess and how I came to worship her.
I. My history with religion.
I'm gonna preface this by saying that I'm from western Europe and not the USA, so religion may not have the same importance and representation here.
As a kid my extent of knowing religion was having family that vaguely believed in a (probably Christian) God and a single lesson of cathechism (I have no idea how the hell it's spelled). I have barely any memory of it. Just that I took my left for my right while doing the hand thing and scolded for using the "hand of the Devil" (sic). My father got wind of me doing the religion lesson and vetoed me continuing it and scolded me and my mother. (Yeah... he was staunchly anti-religion.)
I also had a friend which her and her family was Muslim and we talked a bit about halal things and that's it. I don't think I even questioned why her mother was wearing a veil, I was just like "Oh it's like wearing a hat and a scarf. Neat !".
And I oscillated between thinking a God existed and nothing. I also went back and forth in believing or not in the existence of fate.
In my teens, I got curious about religions in general and tried to read the bible...
I stopped after the tower of Babel after thinking "What a dick !" every single page.
Ironically, it killed my belief in a God as monotheistic religion represents it.
In my point of view, you can't have a omnipotent and omniscient (meaning can do anything and knows everything) that is good and well meaning who does absolutely NOTHING when tragedies happen. "But free will and they're consequences for sinning" can only go so far. What the fuck did kids with cancer do to "deserve" to have cancer in the eyes of God ?! And even if He exists, I think he can go fuck himself.
So, now that I ranted about that, the next religion I dove in was Shintoism thanks to Kamisama Kiss. I don't really remember much about that period of my life to be honest (shitty memory, depression and trauma does that to you). I know I kinda worshipped Inari. I say "kinda" because I know I didn't have enough money at the time to buy a kamidana (basically an at home shrine where you put an o-fuda [a paper from a shrine worshipping the Kami (deity but as in deified forces of nature) which is supposed to have a piece from that kami if I recall correctly] and where you put offerings for that Kami and pray to Them there.)
A long while after that, like, as a young adult, I discovered pop-culture pagainism and I started worshipping The Three Golden Goddesses from TLOZ, with the one I focused on (and honestly needed the most at that moment) being Din, Goddess of Force (and a bunch of other things). I still tried applying principles of Shintoism for Them, like cleansing your mouth and hands before praying, but with my mental health being so bad, it was literally too much for me most of the time and thinking about it, I'm wondering if my praying to Them faded naturally or if I got burnt out trying to pray everyday when I didn't even had energy to brush my teeth most of the time.
Okay, I wanted to do part 2 now, but I've been awake since 5:30 AM, it's 11:20 PM, and I did some heavy duty cleaning, I'm going to be reasonable and go to bed and post this now to not forget about it tomorrow.
