Welcome to The Guide
It was Fall of 2012. I was 23 and I had the world at my feet, or so I was led to believe. I had graduated college a few months prior and all I knew about what was supposed to come next, was a basic outline: job, marriage, house, kids, et cetera. What I didn't know was all that came along with it, but I'd find out soon enough.
It wasn't long after that when I landed a job and met the man who eventually became my husband. Over the next five years I learned a lot about "adulting" through my experiences, and I was surprised to find that I wasn't well prepared for a lot of it.
In media portrayals of earlier decades, high school was always depicted with the typical "home-ec" class.
"Home Economics: cooking and other aspects of home management, especially as taught at school"
Sadly, this was a class my generation and future generations would have to go without. So how, you ask, is a millennial to know what to do? We have to figure it out as we go, which isn't always a bad thing.
This brings me to the objective of this blog. At 28, I've crossed quite a bit off the "adulting" checklist. After spending countless hours researching to go through the processes myself, I wanted to compile all of my knowledge in one, easily accessible place. I want to help, because I've been there. I've gotten the condescending comments from genX coworkers "you don't know how to do WHAT?". I've gotten attitude from people who don't even know me "These millenials don't know how to do anything!". I've been through it, and I want to help.
This blog will cover a plethora of topics. Be on the lookout in the near future for riveting posts about:
Budgeting
Paying off debt
Saving for a house
Cooking
Meal planning
Grocery delivery services, worth it?
Home ownership
Financing options
DIY projects
...and much more!
I hope you'll join me on this journey!
Best,
Kelsey
