the shackles of fate
short lil angsty blurb
As the cold bone chilling dawn crept through the castle’s windows thick stone walls, Mina stood at the edge of the scaffold, her heart skipping and aching with every breath she took. Dahyun, her lover, stood before her in heavy chains, her gaze resolute but heavy with unspoken sorrow and unkept promises. the crowd in attendance murmured, a wave of discontent and shame that seemed to wash over them both, but neither could hear it through the deafening roar of their own inner turmoil.
“I wish—.” Mina choked, her words failing to do justice to the situation she has been confronted with. Her eyes shimmering with unshed tears as she clenches her fists in a pathetic effort to stop the onslaught of emotions brewing deep within like a storm of emotions left unattended.
“I wish there was another way…”
Dahyun’s hand reached out, trembling, as if trying to bridge the chasm that fate had cruelly opened between them. “Maybe in the next universe.” she whispered, her voice barely audible over the wind’s mournful sigh.
“We could have been…this is—“
“Don’t,” Mina interrupted, her voice breaking.
Mina chokes on the words, the immense amount of raw agony she’s faced with consuming her every cell like a raging forest fire.
“I’ll find you in every lifetime, every universe. Even if it’s just for a fleeting moment, I’ll find you..I won’t stop-“
A single tear traced a path down Dahyun’s cheek, and she forced a brave, shaky smile. “Promise me,” she said, her voice a fragile thread of hope. “Promise me you’ll live for us both.”
Mina clung to Dahyun’s gaze, the world around her dissolving into a blur of grief. As she watched the crowd grow restless, waiting for the very moment that felt like such a heavy weight on her very entity.
Mina felt as though her very soul was being torn from her, every fibre of her being torn from the frame of her soul as she watches the guards approach. The echo of Dahyun’s last, gentle smile would haunt her forever, a ghostly reminder of what was lost, of what she had. And though the crowd cheered and the gates clanged shut behind her, Mina knew that no matter where she went or how far she traveled, Dahyun’s absence would remain an unhealed wound in her heart, a cruel twist of fate that would shadow her every step for eternity.
