So mum isnāt well. Iām scared. She and I donāt get on but...sheās my mum. I need her around. Sheās my mum...
Iām really, really scared of losing her. I have nothing to lose except her, so if I need to spend my life caring for her, fine. I will.
Anything but losing her.
I can't describe how scary yet wonderful it is to find someone you'd take a bullet for. Someone for whom you'd do anything just to see them smile, even for a moment. It's also horrible having to bite your tongue for fear of overwhelming them.
The notion that a human being should be constantly happy is a uniquely modern, uniquely American, uniquely destructive idea.
Andrew Weil (via themindmovement)
You have no idea how much I've cried. You'll never know how I jump out of bed in the middle of the night, gasping for air, fresh from a nightmare. Except they aren't nightmares. They're memories. Memories of what you did to me. Memories of how you hurt me. Memories of how you ignored my tears. You'll never know that while you were busy getting what you wanted, I was formulating a plan to go home and drop off the radar. You'll never know that in the time it took you to satisfy yourself, I was working out how much money I would need to buy sufficient tablets to put an end to the psychological torment I knew I'd face afterwards. You have no idea. You never will. You'll go on with life while I fight just to sleep at night.
Lifeās too much to worry about someone who isnāt worried about you.

So tonight my brainās in overdrive after seeing something pretty horrible from a friend. Itās made me think. A lot.
A while ago I watched a talk by BrenĆ© Brown on trust. It made me totally re-evaluate all of my friendships until I realised I had one, maybe two people I trust completely. Itās also made me determined to be the best version of myself I can be.
So tonight I saw these horrible, hurtful remarks and I just thoughtĀ āsorry, was I meant to compile a CV and submit it for the vacancy for a friend?ā
Itās also made me stop and thinkĀ āhow many times has this person made me feel crappy? How often have I listened to this person talk and question myself as a result? Do I really need people who make me feel like this?ā
Yāknow, I donāt know if I have the energy to keep trying to help people who time and time again prove that they arenāt reliable, run from accountability, lack integrity, and rarely, if ever, withhold judgement.
When things hit a snag I make a point of stepping back, taking a breather, then going back, apologising, explaining things from my perspective, and above all, forgiving, whether I receive an apology or not.
When they prove themselves to be unreliable or if they arenāt open about something, I avoid passing judgement, I try to give them the benefit of the doubt.
Now Iām thinking, Iām getting tired of explaining myself time and time again, of exhausting myself trying to be the person you wish I was.
You may be reading this. If you are, hereās a couple of things that I would ask you to take on-board for next time you encounter another human being:
1. You make me feel small. You talk down to me and laugh when I donāt understand things. I canāt help Iām not on the same wavelength as you, that I donāt share all of your passions. 2. There are a few promises youāve made, and havenāt kept. Just scroll through our previous interactions, if you can be bothered. 3. You ignore me when I tell you crucial details, conditions, whatever, call them what you like. You ignore me which leaves me in a horrible, even humiliating position sometimes. 4. Youāve made me feel tolerated as opposed to wanted, and that hurts. That really, really hurts.
I want to change the world. Just maybe not in the same way you do. You want to help people on your wavelength. I want to help people on mine. Sometimes our people overlap. Maybe not enough for us to create change together.
April is going to mark two years of recovery from self harm. Yay. After two years, having spent 3 years self harming, I look at my scars and I'm in two minds. They're reminders that I can get through things. They're also reminders of how self destructive I can be. I just needed to put that out there. Maybe one day I'll cover them with tattoos that mean more to me than my scars ever will. Maybe I'll leave them alone. I don't know.

Why do you forgive everyone but yourself?

A few weeks ago I reached out to someone who hurt me pretty badly. I gave them a chance to tell me the truth. They didnāt. Thatās besides the point, though.
When we were talking I admitted something that had struck me when I fell apart over what had happened between us.
I said āI donāt think Iāve come any further than I was two years ago. I feel like Iāve been on pause for two years. I feel like someoneās just pressed the play button, and Iām back to having to deal with everything I was feeling when I was 16.ā
I feel like after exactly (and I literally mean exactly) two years of being stuck on pause, everything started to move again. The pain kicked me into action, and it was crippling.
Now Iām 18, about to turn 19 in two months, and Iām terrified. Because a month later I hit another 2 year recovery milestone, and Iām already bracing myself for the pain of it.
Iām already preparing for the fact that Iām going to be alone, and in the same place, when that pain hits.
Iām scared as hell of the pain hitting, because if Iām having an āoffā day, how the hell does one get through such pain on their own?

Closure is such a beautiful thing. Not because it helps to fully end one chapter but because it marks the real beginning of a new chapter.
