Honeybadger paused, posture tensing as Starboy's words settled upon her like a sheet. It took a second for her to remember that she was a HERO now ( or at least attempting to act like one ) , because if she didn't fall into that fact, then this kid would have been decorations for her metal claws.
She spun on her heels abruptly, stalking over to him and stopping only when she seemed to LOOM from above. Piercing gaze from behind her mask was unwavering, even as the door swung open by an unknown force ( Invisigal actually figured it wouldn't be worth being covered in blood ) .
God, was her and Sonar obvious? It had only happened a few times, and majorly before the Z-Team. They got along well, and maybe that was the problem.
"Sonar and I aren't DATING. And you sure as shit aren't setting a good fucking example by coming in here and—" Cutting herself off at the other's expression, a silent, dawning horror realised itself.
This kid wasn't talking about Sonar.
No, not if their confusion was anything to go by. She straightened up a bit, brows furrowing behind the menacing aura of her suit, and... Badger swallowed thickly, voice growing quiet: "You're... not talking about Sonar, are you?"
"Punch Up?" Badger blinked, lips parting as if to speak, but closing quickly once any immediate reply was deemed incriminating. Her cheeks flushed a soft red, embarrassment thick and plain. A few seconds later, she said: "I've known Punch Up for years. We're just mates, mate."
Was that even convincing? Starboy here was fucking DUMB, entirely blind to humanity and its ways, but not incapable. Somehow, she thought, she was digging herself into a deeper hole by confusing him.
"We don't fuck!" She said a little too loudly, and she had to glance towards the break room door to see if anyone was in earshot. When it was concluded there weren't, Badger huffed... and then growled.
"Firstly, motherfucker, I'm not an ANIMAL." And yet her whole shtick and way in RESOLVING crimes said otherwise to her animalistic nature. "Secondly, a honeybadger and a bat would never happen in nature. One flies, the other doesn't. Opposite ends of the animal spectrum. Add that to your list of human fuckin' facts."
Badger had a brief thought that she'd have to be a teacher now. This was a teachable moment. And while she wanted to tell Starboy to get fucked, maybe with a few claws involved, she'd withhold. She really needed this job.
"You do realise that you can be close to people and NOT want to fuck them, right?" Even if there was some basis to Starboy's observations. "You've learned that?"
“Mates.. as in friends I assume? And not mates like in nature?” Good lord someone shut him up PLEASE.
His eye brows raise at the sudden declaration that she and Sonar don’t fuck, slightly taken aback by the increase in volume. Then she growled and his brows furrow at the sound. ‘Not an animal,’ and here she is growling in his face. But he withholds that comment, for now.
When Honeybadger starts talking again, Starboy nods slightly, antenna bouncing with the motion but he frowns, “I’m not a motherfucker. I don’t fuck mothers! Why would you say I do?”
Though apparently his interjection doesn’t stop Honeybadger’s verbal onslaught, Starboy stands there, nodding one more as she speaks.
At the mention of his list of human facts, a soft ‘oh!’ escapes him as he pulls a small notebook from his pocket, flipping it open before murmuring softly to himself as he writes, “Opposite.. ends… of the animal… spectrum…”
With a soft click of his pen, Starboy was done writing and tucks the notebook away again, “I have learned that! Phenomaman and I are very close, but we do not fuck.” He states matter of factly. “And I am close with Waterboy! And we do not fuck.” Not yet at least.
