It genuinely boggles my mind how confidently people will critique and hate someone who is not only the main character of the series they claim to love, but a CHILD. People are so quick to villainize Marinette for being human and having emotions and for sometimes letting those emotions get ugly. Human beings have messy and ugly emotions! She is literally acting like a real person- and a YOUNG one!!! She is a child!!
This girl is a literal child, and she had to weigh two options- crush the love of her life by telling him his father was a terrorist and is dead, or let people believe a lie -that he died as a hero- to protect Adrien! Any young girl in love would ALWAYS choose to protect their Adrien! That is the whole point!
The point is that she made a choice blinded by her love and her desire to protect him, and now she is struggling unimaginably with her choice because she regrets it!
Not to mention sheâs said on multiple occasions that she wants to confess and is being gaslit by Nathalie, and also now fears her own best friend hating her when the truth comes out. She trapped herself in a lie and sheâs panicking. Her motivations were selfish but driven by love!
This is what makes her complex! Marinette is a complex character!
And I know god damn well if their roles in the show were reversed and Adrien was the one that had lied to her, everyone would be defending Adrien and still finding a way to demonize Marinette for having a terrorist father. You guys donât hate her because sheâs ânot well writtenâ, you guys hate her because sheâs a woman.
