Izumi and Satoru are my OCs from Kirigakure/The Mist
…
“You don’t know what you’re doing, woman,” Suigetsu muttered under his breath, although he was barely standing up on his feet. “You can’t just allow a fugitive to escape-”
“You are not a fugitive.” Although she too was on the last reserves of her chakra, especially after the… bloodshed they had just escaped, Izumi was still able to support the Hozuki while dragging Kubikiribocho behind her. The white haired man was aware that she was shaking slightly… and not just from fatigue.
“It wasn’t your fault.” he mumbled in what he hoped was a non-judgmental tone.
“I suppose we can tell that to Hebiichigo.” As much as the redhead tried to keep her voice nonchalant, there was the tremor in it. “Oh wait… we can’t.” And now it was laced with bitterness and discontempt.
“There wasn’t anything you could do about it.”
“Suigetsu just - please… don’t try to make this better for me.”
The man was successful in suppressing a sigh. Whatever he said now, it wouldn’t matter… words couldn’t ease the guilt she felt. Not while the pain was still so raw. Not with the only person she had was him, who was never good with words… what she needed was distraction.
“Any ideas how we’re going to get out of Kiri then?”
“I have an acquaintance in the docks. He will get us out of here if it’s the last thing he does.”
“Not if I have a say about it.”
Suigetsu did not recognize the new voice that joined them, but it was clear the redhead kunoichi did as she froze on the spot, bringing him to an agonizing halt as well. With a grunt, the white haired man fell to the ground.
It was a sign of the agitation Izumi was feeling as she didn’t even acknowledge this unceremonious act with an apology as she whipped back, brandishing the legendary sword sloppily in her hands. “Satoru…”
“Izumi.” The dark haired man simply stated as he walked forward, his gaze as well as his sword hand steady. There was a cold, unyielding look in his eyes. “Surely… you aren’t trying to run away with this criminal?”
“He is no criminal.” Despite how exhausted she felt, Izumi still managed to deliver her words in an unwavering tone. “He was invited here by the Mizukage’s orders. He helped us in this war as much as any of our ninjas. What crime do you even blame him with?”
“So you claim he’s totally innocent eh? That he’s some sort of… war hero…” Satoru jerked his head to behind them, towards the docks. “Why is he running away, then, with one of our swords nonetheless?”
Izumi gaped at him, lost of words for a moment. “You… didn’t you hear what happened in town?” Her voice broke in the end. “Don’t you know…?”
“I heard a thing or two,” the man’s voice, on the other hand, was almost careless. “That’s why he’s hightailing it?”
“I’m letting him escape. I will notify Lord Mizukage and Mei about my decision. And I will definitely bring Kubikiribocho back. This is my word. This is on my head.” The redhead stood a little stronger, squaring her shoulders. “I will not let him face the same carnage Hebiichigo and her friends did.”
“Izumi, Izumi…” Satoru shook his head, and Izumi wondered, with an uneasy pang of disgust in her heart, if what she saw was the hint of a smile on his face. “You don’t really expect people who’d been hurt by them to stand idly aside and let them be, do you? Of course there was going to be some sort of retaliation.”
“Retaliation?” Izumi almost shouted in angry disbelief. “A young, innocent girl was murdered in cold blood you mongrel!”
“She wasn’t so innocent when she joined that Shizuma bastard in rebellion years ago. One has to take responsibility for what they-”
Satoru didn’t get to finish his sentence. With a cry of pure rage, Izumi had lunged at him, the legendary sword held high. The man just had the time to rise his own. The two blades clashed, but it was apparent that Kubikiribocho had the upper hand.
“You were behind this too, weren’t you?” Izumi hissed in his face. “You were a perpetrator in that goddamn attack!”
“So what if I was?” Satoru leered, unfazed. “Excuse me if I’m not going to cry over a bunch of scum.”
“You monster!” Izumi cried as she made a big slash with the sword, and Satoru had to jump back with a grunt as it passed by mere inches from his face. “They fought for Kiri, they were here to help!”
“Doesn’t erase their sins from the past, though, does it?”
It was like a red mist had clouded her vision. She wasn’t aware that she had moved, but the next moment, she engaged Satoru.
Izumi didn’t need words to convey her feelings after that point. Instead she let Kubikiribocho talk, and felt like she was empowered by every parry, every thrust. It was like the sword understood her insatiable wrath, even felt the very same way. She felt like it was singing, singing her fury to the darkening sky.
Was it how wielding a legendary sword felt like, she wondered. She… was enjoying it.
On and on they went, and she lost track of time completely. It could’ve been ten minutes or hours… She could hear Satoru’s breath hitching and it was like her chakra reserve was full from the beginning, she didn’t feel even a single drop of sweat on herself.
Your rightful anger is giving you all the strength you need, a voice mused in her head.
Satoru’s sword flew away from his hands. He winced as he landed hard on his back and couldn’t get up. When he looked up at her, the kunoichi saw his eyes widening and a look of panic… no, almost fear settling into them.
She’d never once beaten him in a sword fight after all.
Having locked eyes with him, Izumi didn’t immediately move for the last strike. She just kept gazing at the man that once held her heart, but now she hated him with all her being. One by one scenes flew before her eyes. Satoru subtly but mercilessly making fun of her, blaming her for Masaki’s awful injuries… Proposing to her like it was nothing, like her feelings and humiliation did not matter, like she did not matter… And now this, rallying ignorant people against those who came to their aid in Kiri’s most troubled moment…
This man was the embodiment of everything she hated and resented. Izumi raised Kubikiribocho even higher.
For all there was to it, she had completely forgotten about Suigetsu, for her no one existed but her and Satoru. That was why she was completely taken aback when she couldn’t move the sword any further, that it was being pulled back.
“That will do.” came the calm voice of the Hozuki from behind her. How was he so calm?
“No.” she said, and her tone was another shock. It was so cold, almost devoid of emotions. “He needs to die. I will end this here and now.”
Before Suigetsu could say anything more, Satoru acted. He dived for his sword, rolled and stood up again. Izumi was more than ready to continue their battle, she was actually yearning for it, but there was a tug in her hands and Kubikiribocho was no longer hers.
She had never seen another warrior wielding a sword like this, maybe only Chojuro. It didn’t even look like Suigetsu was fighting, it was more like a deadly dance. The winner was determined from the very beginning.
In no time at all, maybe even less time than it took for her to defeat him, Suigetsu had the legendary sword against Satoru’s throat. He was such a… natural he seemed, at that moment, just the rightful person to carry a legendary sword, like it was his birthright. She felt a shiver going down her spine. It was a formidable sight.
“You will return to the village.” The white haired man said in a tone that somehow held the authority of a kage. And still, he was so calm. Izumi could not understand it. “You will not pursue us, and I will spare you.”
“You, spare me? Who the hell do you think you are?”
“That’s for you to find out if you’re foolish enough.” Inexplicably, he turned his back to the man on the ground. “Come on, Izumi, let’s go.”
Satoru got to his feet, a look of disgust settling in his eyes as he directed his gaze to the kunoichi himself. “Mark my words, I will never forget this.” He spat towards the back of Suigetsu.
Izumi knew it would take only a spark to ignite the fury inside her, and that was it. Sprinting from her place, she was by the white haired man in a second, her hand reaching for the legendary sword once more.
And then there was a sharp pain to the back of her head, and she saw no more.
…
She opened her eyes to a strong breeze whipping her face, and the smell of salt water filling her nostrils. Blinking, her companion came into view, sitting just a few feet in front of her.
“Where are we?” Her voice was a little groggy.
“Isn’t it obvious?” came Suigetsu’s answer, not looking at her. She noticed Kubikiribocho on his lap and one of his hands trailing in the sea. At first she thought nothing of it, but slowly, she noticed the many wounds he had received were healing. Just by small degrees, but they were. “We are sailing away from the Mist.”
“I didn’t know water could heal you as well.”
Suigetsu scoffed, but it was without humor. “Shows just how much you Kiri people know.”
She was so, so tired that she didn’t bother to merit this with an appropriate answer. Instead, she found herself just staring at the sword. “You should’ve allowed me to finish what I started.” she mumbled. Oh she so wanted to hold the blade again…
“No.” The man’s answer was curt, delivered with a finality. It made Izumi frown up at him.
“I can wield a legendary sword perfectly well, thank you very much, and I believe I showed how capable I am just now.”
“That’s not it, you idiot.” The Hozuki sighed, passing a hand through his eyes. “You… have no idea about the kind of power these swords have, do you? About their true potential?”
Izumi was surprised, and she didn’t answer for a moment. “I know about as much as any Kirigakure ninja.” she replied honestly.
“So in short, you know next to nothing.” There was the scoff again, which was beginning to get on the woman’s nerves. “Yet you get to claim the swords truly belong to the Mist… The ignorance is laughable.”
“Well, why don’t you spit it out then?” Her tone was a little more aggressive than she imagined, but she couldn’t help it.
“This is not the time. Go back to sleep. There’s still a long way to the Land of Fire.”
It was Izumi’s turn to scoff. “I didn’t sleep. You knocked me out.”
“It was just as well. If Kubikiribocho got a hold of you while you were at your weakest… Well, you can thank me later when you hear the whole story.”
Izumi looked away, though it was hard, and out into the open water, towards the land piece they were leaving behind. “How come you know the whole story then?”
“You ever heard about Hozuki Mangetsu? From the unbeatable legendary warriors, the first group?” There was a pause. “He was my brother.”
“Oh.” The woman didn’t know what else to say. From what she heard, Mangetsu wasn’t alive anymore.
“He had mastered all of the seven swords. And that was what cost him his life. That much power… isn’t meant for one person only.” Another smirk. “It’s not only about learning taijutsu and kenjutsu, you see. There’s a whole lore behind it.”
“I honestly don’t understand what you’re saying…” Trying to decipher the meaning was already giving her a headache. “But I’m more than eager to listen to that lore when we can… and decide whether I’ll thank you for it or not.”
“I suppose I should thank you for getting me out of that hellhole as well,” this time, the man’s smile, albeit a small one, was genuine as he finally looked at her. “But let’s not turn this into a tradition, shall we?”
Izumi smiled herself. “No. Let’s not.” Then she settled as best as she could into the boat for a restless sleep.
"why can't they just be friends?" not in the homophobic sense, but in the "in your need to center romance in everything you are missing the whole point of the media in question" sense
Uploading the first of a few family pictures sequences that I'm doing of my main Naruto OC!
This first one depicts Naomi's parents, Shizue and Miyo, with their newborn daughter.
Naomi was born on December 23rd, in the same year as most of her Konoha Rookies including Naruto which means she was born a little over two months after the Nine Tails attack. She was the first grandchild of the Kosetsu family, being only a month older than her cousin, Shizuka.
Her father is a Konoha ninja, from the same generation as Minato Namikaze, who came to Konoha at the age of five, together with his family as refugees from the scattered Yuki clan. The Third Hokage accepted their request for help in exchange for intel gathering (information about this will be explained further in the future).
Her mother is a civilian of Konoha who works at her family's sewing business with her mother while her father is a Konoha ninja.
The second picture is in the works and hopefully will be uploaded soon!
