Were they really discussing this? Honestly this conversation she wanted to avoid more than anything. Her plan was tos how up one day and make up a stupid reason to explain her absence. Ha, did she really think that would work on her best friend?

“A-Apparently it’s been developing for a while. I found out a month ago. W-When I stopped coming to school is when I found out…” Her face showed her fear. The fear of never returning to school. The fear of growing weak. Worst off, the fear of dying. “K-Kaoru… c-can I go now?” She was shaking now. All she wanted to do was hide. To sulk to herself.

The blonde fell silent for a few moments. He contemplated the words he wanted to say and the ones he could save for later. From how his companion trembled, it was best to keep it short. That’s how he saw it after all.

“Mind if I tag along then? I need to pick up a few books and get rid of my wallet there anyways.” -- a joke to possibly brighten up the mood. ‘I’ll let her keep it at that for now.’ The last thing Kaoru wanted was to overwhelm her after the rollercoaster she’s still riding through.

This is why she didn’t contact her best friend. As much as it pained her, it was best to cut off communication. She knew what he went through with his brother. He shouldn’t haven’t go through it with his best friend as well. Though she couldn’t lie straight to his face about something like this. It was hard.

“I c-can’t come back to school. Not because of some stupid vacation. …I-I’m supposed to be on bed rest u-until…” She took a breath, looking away. If she continued to look at him, it was certain she would begin to cry or lash out in anger. “Until I-I can get a liver transplant. You know how long that can take.”

The grip he had on her loosened for a moment, only to have tightened a bit more hearing of her ( much? ) needed transplant. “....How long has this been a thing?” He wanted to ask her how long she had kept this from him but it was likely that it wasn’t the smartest of decisions. He wasn’t angry or upset -- just... fairly gloomy. It’d take a bit more of time for full time sadness to set in once more.

No, that wasn’t fair. The way he put it, he made the situation sound like she was purposely cutting her best friend out. It wasn’t like that. This event that caused her to drop off the face of this school was never intentional. “W-What do you wa-want to hear? The tr-truth? I doubt you could handle that. I’m doing you a favor, Kaoru.”

“You know me better than anyone else on this campus, Himi” -- persuasion by nickname -- “I want the truth no matter what my reaction is.” And it’s been seen various times, especially in the case of that twin brother of his. Not knowing the truth was something that developed out of the numerous encounters he’s had with Syo telling him that he was fine when they were younger. “Tell me the truth, Himi.”

Accepting the textbooks she was handed, she held them close. Her glasses meant the world to her. The only reason she had these two books left was because she insisted on keeping them longer in the hopes of returning soon enough. However, that wasn’t the case. ”I-I’m… not attending any classes anymore. My parents already returned the other books.”

Biting her lower lip, she took a step forward. ”Sorry for keeping you.” she muttered as she attempted to walk past him.

This was strange. Normally his friend wouldn’t be the type to keep a short conversation with him -- then again, this was Hitomi. Regardless though, an arm extended out and clutcheed her forearm, himself preparing a response as he did so. “What do you mean you’re not? -- Don’t leave your best friend in the dark.”

That wasn’t who she thought it was right? Gulping, she peaked from over her books. Dropping all her books on her foot, she didn’t even scream. Her eyes were wide, just staring at the male before her. ‘Shit.’

”….K-Kaoru,” she murmured. This was not her plan. Frozen, the girl went through different phrases in her mind. All of them were terrible and wrst of all: lies. She settled with one lie. ”I was o-on vacation with my family. L-Last minute.”

“That so...” It was strange though -- she would’ve at least sent him a text if that were the case. Unless it was overseas and texting was a no-go? Either way though. “I can see it was -- you haven’t shown up to classes since the semester started.” Picking the load of books off her foot, he’ll leave it to her to see if any pain would actually throb. “...From how it looks, you’re not going to be in these classes anymore?” -- gesturing at the textbooks in possessison.

Huffing as she scaled the flight of stairs, the young brunette stopped at the top to catch her breath. ”Honestly, I can’t walk this far anymore?” she growled to herself. With a sigh, the once medical student continued her way through the hall. Books were in her hand. Biology, Radiology and more subjects she was invested in before the recent development in her life. ”Since when was the damn bookstore so far?”

Another set of textbooks to read for this anatomy class... Wonderful... Like his room wasn’t already piled with books already. ( Surprising enough that he managed to even get a small space on his bed to sleep on. ) The long walk it took to just get from the dormitories to the bookstore was just a cherry on top.

A familiar voice echoed through the hall in which he treaded upon ( he thought he was alone here, guess not ) -- cerulean irises moved from the neverending corrider to just behind him.

But he didn’t think he’d see his best friend again just behind those books. “..Hitomi, where in the world have you been.”

A sigh emitted from her lips, arms loosening their once tight hold on her son as she clicked her tongue. “I meant to come in time for you and your brother’s birthday, but the weather just wasn’t on my side.” She didn’t even want to think about anything else other than her family back home while she waited for a later departure time due to a delayed flight.

“Our birthday?” That would have been a bigger surprise if she would have arrived then. “It’s better for you to have a safer trip, so I can understand why your arrival was delayed. I’m very pleased to see you made it home safely rather than hear a plane crashed due to the inconvenience of the weather.” He’d rather have his family safe and sound. Syo was a different story though.

That was more like it. Her arms followed in suit, squeezing her child a bit as she replaced that pout of hers with a smile. “And I missed you too. My trip was fine, for the most part. Only a few bumpy roads, but I’m here.”

It was always a pleasant surprise when his mother came. Needless to say, it was rare but welcomed. “That’s great. I’m glad you made it here. Did you come over for any particular reason?” Did Syo happen to have a big project going on?
