What she says: I'm fine.
What she means: How does the world of 'Inside Out' work? Like, the emotions obviously act out what emotions they're assigned to, but those emotions also have other emotions like when Joy feels sadness. So, do emotions have different emotions? Because later on in the movie, Disgust references the fact that Anger has a brain. Does that mean emotions have brains with other emotions in them? And presumably, if those emotions have emotions, their emotions must also have emotions. Where does this end? Do emotions have an infinite amount of emotions? And how can emotions have different emotions?

It often happens that the real tragedies of life happen in such an inartistic manner that they hurt us by their crude violence, their absolute incoherence, their absurd want of meaning, their entire lack of style. They affect us just as vulgarity affects us. They give us an impression of sheer brute force, and we revolt against that. Sometimes however a tragedy of artistic elements of beauty crosses our lives. If these elements of beauty are real, the whole thing simply appeals to our sense of dramatic effect. Suddenly we find that we are no longer the actors, but the spectators. Or rather we are both. We watch ourselves, and the mere wonder of the spectacle enthrall us

Before you even notice, you will have settled. You will enjoy your Monday morning coffee and think itâs just what you needed to start your day. You will visit the library every Tuesday, hoping to find some new escape in a new book, just to get away from your life. You will eat lunch with your best friend every Wednesday, order the usual at your favorite restaurant, youâre satisfied. On Thursday you go for a walk around your neighborhood to clear your mind, and look forward to tomorrow. On Friday evening you think youâve made it, so you reward yourself with delivery pizza and an alright movie youâve seen more than six times. Saturday, thereâs still a day separating you from Monday, so youâre fine. Sunday, you dread, dread, until you go to bed. Then itâs the same old routine, slowly getting through life, thinking you enjoy it, when you could easily learn to enjoy something else. How do you know what you need to get through the day is just coffee? Maybe itâs just telling yourself, hey, I can do it, thereâs more to look forward to. Instead of living your life through books why donât you go on an adventure and take a risk like your favorite fictional character? How do you know that meal is really your favorite thing at a restaurant when youâve never let yourself taste something else? Is looking forward to the end of the week your motivation to actually get through life? If it is, why, when youâre just living the same old shit week to week, nothing will change. You wonât change. You think youâre happy, but couldnât you be happier?

My friend Ashely is in Australia this Christmas so I rather expertly designed this Gaslight Anthem inspired Christmas card to make her feel a little more at home. The talent I posses is clearly overwhelming.

A) Itâs Austen. B) Jane Austenâs writing is riddled with examples of why the writing of her time was also flawed. C) The Beats flipped the switch off forever on the notion of âthe great writerâ in the same way punk upended the concept of âthe rock godâ. They turned literature into something that was accessible to the working class, both as audience and creator. And sorry, but if you donât respect that, youâre a terrible person. D) Fair point about Bukowski.
