One Simple Mistake - Jin/Renee

Jin could sense her urgency by the way she talked. Renee is the type of person that would never hurt an animal on purpose and he knew she was telling the truth. Indeed, he was not an animal doctor but he experienced situations like this before (it’s common to be asked to do anything medicine related when you’re the only doctor in the town). There was one situation that immediately popped in his mind.

Johanna… It was a few months after they had been introduced to each other. He could still remember her rushing to his home just like Renee did, asking him if there was anything he could do. He agreed to help her right away, knowing that she was kind-hearted girl who would do anything to help others.

While he treated the poor injured bird she found by the church she hurried back and forth handing him all the equipment he needed to treat the bird. Being new at the town, he knew she needed a job and he asked her right after the event to work for him as his nurse. He taught her everything he knew. She had cried while she waited for him to finish and she had cried again when he told her he couldn’t save it. How ironic that is now.

Renee’s pure innocence reminded him so much of her it killed him. But there was nothing he could do about that now; none of this was Renee’s fault. He willed the flashbacks to fade away and put on his typical smile. “Renee, I promise it will be alright, and of course I would be willing to help you. Please take me to the animal right away and explain to me exactly what happened while we walk.” 

He locked the clinic doors, picked up his emergency kit and umbrella, and followed Renee into the night.

Renee noticed the dazed look on Jin's face though she did not bother to make a comment on it.  It was not long before he snapped out of whatever thoughts had been consuming him and she simply nodded in response to his words.  "Thank you so much... really, Jin..."

Beginning to walk in the direction of Flute Fields, Renee thought of where she should begin to explain what had happened to the doctor.  "Well..." She thought of the lamb back home and wondered how he was doing.  "Sheep have very sensitive digestive systems... suddenly introduce something foreign to them and they can get really sick."  She was grateful that she at least had enough knowledge to know why Macy had become so ill.

"Since my dad is out of town, he left me with all of his animals to watch... and since I had so much work to do, I got careless and accidentally left a bag of food lying around."  She let out a sigh, the guilt continuing to build of in her.  "Macy somehow got into it and ate from it and... well, it wasn't long before she got sick.  I was hoping it would pass and I could cure her with the medicine we had, but she's just been getting worse."

Turning to Jin as they approached Horn Ranch, the woman let out yet another sigh.  "I understand if you can't help, but... please try to save him, Jin.

Jin had had another long and tiring day. It was a Friday and he was looking forward to the weekend to get his matters in order and to relax with a cup of tea and a nice novel. After closing up the clinic and wishing Irene a great weekend he exited to his room. He showered, read a little, and decided to head to bed earlier than normal.

It was around 2 a.m. when he heard the loud knocking noise on the clinic doors. The rain was pouring heavily outside and the knocking sound echoed around the clinic.   ”Jin… ?  Hey, Jin!” Jin automatically recognized the voice to be Renee’s. He knew her family very well as they were one of the first he met when he first moved in. He always purchased his milk from the Horn Ranch because theirs’ were the healthiest and completely organic.  Renee had visited his clinic a few times over the years and he thought she was a very kind and joyful person, the type he liked being around.

He immediately got up from his bed and answered the door. As soon as he saw her he knew something was wrong. She had a frantic look on her face- one that he has never seen on her before. He automatically felt a sense of worry and concern for the girl. “Renee? What’s wrong? Are you hurt anywhere?” He asked.

Renee breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Jin appear at the door, grateful that he had either been awake, or had been woken up by her knocking.  "U-Um... no it's not me that's hurt!  I just... I'm really sorry to bother you this late at night... it's just one of my animals got really sick."  She paused, biting down on her bottom lip and looking away.  "Or not one of mine, but one of my dad's... which makes it even worse!"

There was an evidently distressed tone to her voice as the woman spoke, and she fiddled with the hem of her sleeve as she did.  "Do... Do you think you can help?  I mean, I know that you're not an animal doctor, but I can use all the help I can get."  She was practically begging him at this point.

Not wanting to force the man into doing anything he did not want to do however, Renee then quickly added another phrase to the end of her words.  "I-If you can't, I understand though!"

Kathy/Renee - SURPRISE ♥

  Nope nope it can’t wait I tell you! [Slings the backpack almost delicately over her shoulder.] She’s still sleepin’, I just got her yesterday so she’s had a bit of an adventurous day today …

  [Offers her the backpack with a wide grin turned up on her lips.] Well go ahead and take a look ~ ♥.

She's still sleeping... ? [Raises an eyebrow curiously at Kathy's words, so she very quickly begins to catch on]  What on earth are you - ?

... ! [Her eyes widen significantly and she cups both hands over her mouth as she leans forward to peer into the bag, seeing what is inside] Kath, you can't be serious.  [Holds both her arms out so that Kathy can hand the puppy to her] My dad and I just got that new dog recently, and - 

♪ [Suddenly smiles broadly, gently bouncing on her heels in excitement]  And thank you so much! ♥

One Simple Mistake - Jin/Renee

She had mad a mistake.

Sitting in the barn at night, Renee looked at the lamb in front of her with widened eyes.  Macy, one of her father's sheep, had managed to get into some food that she had accidentally left out.  Food that he was not supposed to eat.  Change sheep's diets too quickly and they could very easily die after all.

She should not have been left to take care of so many animals at once.  Of course she had been honoured that her father trusted her enough to leave her with the animals, but this really was too large of a job for one person to handle.  Her mother would help occasionally, but Hana's main focus was taking care of the shop.

Then again, Renee knew that she should not be making excuses.  This was her fault and she needed to take responsibility for it.

Staying in the barn until after the sun had long since set, Renee had hoped that she could nurse the small animal back to health.  Unfortunately, its condition only managed to get worse, and the young woman found herself desperate to find help.  She could not tell her mom, of course.  What about Kevin?  Or Molly?  Surely they were far too busy with their own animals to worry about hers.

With no other people to turn to, Renee decided to head to the clinic.  Sure Jin was not an animal doctor, but maybe he would be able to help her with Macy.  Or at least she hoped so.

It was well passed midnight by the time the young woman arrived at the door to the clinic, and she desperately called out for the doctor as she knocked.  "Jin... ?  Hey, Jin!"

  Awh come on now— Did you really expect me of all people to forget? [She chimed in an upbeat town before releasing the other, standing proud with hands on her hips.] Well honey you’re certainly most welcome — but please no need for thanks until I give you your actual birthday present ♪.

  And I’ve got a feeling it can’t wait much longer ya’know.

[Shrugs lightly and lets out another laugh] Well... not really, but I still am grateful, you know. ♥

? [Tilts her head slightly and looks at Kathy with a slightly confused expression on her face]  It... can't wait?  Well then you better show me, huh~?

Oh Renee ~ ♪! [The girl shouts along the pasture of Flute Fields, raising her arm up to wave as she stood at the top of the rather tall hill.] [Moves rather quickly to meet the brunette at the bottom, whom was currently preoccupied brushing one of the cattle; Kathy adjusted the backpack she currently wore.] Guess what ♥.

~? [Turns around when she hears the familiar voice call out to her, thought one arm still remains on the cow she had been tending to]

Kathy! [Smiles broadly and waves at the girl, then laughs as she decides to play along with what she is saying]  What ♪ ?

No problem! Wouldn’t want you to be either! Or your family! /Grins/ Well, collies are smart so I betcha he’ll outsmart you a few times but as long as you show him you’re the alpha, he’ll get it! I think he’ll be sweetheart, he already seems to like you!

/Looks over at Renee, smiling at the collar/ Good choice! You may have to get him a bigger one when he gets all full grown! But, think that’ll do. /Taps a finger to his chin, shaking his head slowly/ Not really…? I have tags though, just not the engraving thingy.

Hm... [Moves to tap her chin, before nodding and smiling brightly at Rod] Alright, good to know, thank you ♪!  You've been a real big help today.

Yes, but at least this will work for now.  [She looks down at the collar, then turning to look at the small puppy in her arms.  At Rod's words, she simply nods] Oh, and that's fine.  I'll get my father to do it where he gets it done for the farm animals back home.  No big deal.

On that note, let me pay you and go then, Rod!

    “… Relaxing?” Julia hissed, crossing her lanky arms across her chest tightly. She closed her eyes thoughtfully and attempted to hold her tongue back from relinquishing her provoking opinions on the subject of fishing. However, after much little consideration, her eyelids revealed a bitter gaze despite the vibrant color of her eyes correlating with the aqua river rushing beneath their feet.

    “Do you understand how cruel fishing is?” Stomping forward, she curled her fingers into a ball to utilize the tension stored in her veins. “What have the fish ever done to you to deserve this?”

Renee rose an eyebrow at the woman's obvious growing irritation, and she tilted her head slightly.  "Yeah relaxing.  Why - ?"  She jolted slightly as the girl suddenly rushed forward as she spoke, raising her hands in front of her defensively.

"C-Cruel?  Miss, I assure you I know that it's not pleasant for them, but I don't just do it just for fun!  My family... normally makes dishes with the fish that I catch."  She frowned, gazing back at the water for a moment.  "They haven't done anything to me, but... it's just a part of life for us.  I'm sorry that you don't agree with it."

[ / nods, agreeing with what she said ] Yeah!! Who knew?! If only Dad trusted me a bit more, I’d make mayonnaise whenever I’d like!! How convenient that would be— but he’d never… y’know… [ / laughs a bit bitterly, but shrugs ] 

[ / gets really excited upon entering the coop, and nods at her order, skipping towards to where she pointed and crouched down, pursing his lips as he thought ] Hmm… [ / and picked one up! ] Alright! What’s next?

Hm~?  [Tilts her head slightly as she looks at Luke, before letting out a light laugh]  Well maybe one day!  You can show him what we make today, and I can help you make it a few more times if you would like.

[Watches as Luke goes to get the egg, smiling brightly as he soon brings one back]  Be careful with that, alright?  The chickens get protective of their eggs, so we wouldn't want to drop it and make it go to waste.

... And now we go back to my house so we can use the kitchen. ♪

[ / nods, skipping backwards towards the barn, sure he knew where to walk, where to avoid as he did ] 

W-Whoa, that’s it? That’s not that much, huh? I would’ve never guessed it’d have so lil’ in it? Is it an easy process though?? [ / laughs as he speaks, giddy and giggly. He turns around — already facing the barn and nods again ] Well this’ll be a breeze! Let’s gooooo~ ♪ !

Yep!  [She nods, letting out a laugh as she does]  That's all the ingredients we need... and mayonnaise is actually rather easy to make, yes.  You'll be surprised. ♪

[Heads into the chicken coop and looks around, smiling as she sees all the birds walking around] We just need to grab an egg from one of these guys.  [She points at a small cluster of chickens] Those ones aren't laying fertilized eggs at the moment, so one of them may be sitting on one we can use.  Go ahead and pick one up ~!

Like I said, border collies are smart. I feel like that little boy is gonna be chill and kind. Just keep your fingers away when he’s teething! /Shrugs/ He’ll get a hang of it. Maybe once you bring him home, he’ll try to herd you? That’ll make him the best in show!

/Grins at her, chuckling/ He sure is! I think he’ll be a great part of your family! Dog collar huh? /He picks up the other two puppies and nods over at two baskets/ There are collars and leashes in those two. /He starts to walk to a pen,setting the puppies down/ So just pick out one that works for you!

Oh well that's certainly good to know ♪!  And thank you for telling me, I'll be sure to keep that little fact in mind.  Wouldn't want to be chewed on, after all.  [She laughs and nods her head as she speaks] We'll just have to see what happens, I suppose.  I'm sure he'll be great though. ♥

Hm?  [Stands up, still holding on to the small dog and heading over to the nearby baskets.  She looks inside and after only a few moments pulls out a dark blue collar and leash] I'll take these then!  Do you engrave the tags here or... ?

[Laughs as Luke begins to walk backwards] We'll only be making a small amount, so... [She counts the ingredients on her fingers as she speaks]  We need one egg, some olive oil, a lemon, a little bit of salt, and some water!

    Julia sifted the silver soles of her snow white boots through the light layer of dirt composing the path feeding into the eastern portion of the island. She found the district names of Castanet intriguing, seeing their basis rooted out of musical components. Flute Fields, Harmonica Town, Clarinet District. “What was the reasoning behind these?” She pondered, before her mind wandered towards the new-found sight of a bridge.

    On the stone bridge, a young woman bobbed with short chocolate brown hair cast her fishing line into the river rushing below. She grimaced at the stranger, rubbing her intricate fingers smoothly above her eyebrows. In hopes of not ruining her trip, the golden blonde continue her walk ever so grudgingly behind the oblivious girl. However, when the person finally caught a fish vying for air, the urge to speak her mind overcame her decision to refrain.

    “Eek!” Julia shrieked, narrowing her eyes on the post-exterior of the woman’s head. “Pardon me, but I must ask — why do you fish?!”

It was a sunny and clear day when Renee finally found an opportunity to slip away from work and relax.  She had meant to ask Toby if he could go fishing with her, but unfortunately the white-haired boy was nowhere to be found, so she was left sitting by the river alone.  Not that she minded much.

It took quite some time, but she did eventually manage to hook a fish, and she quickly stood up in an attempt to reel the creature in. "... !" Despite her best efforts however, the fish managed to get away when Renee was distracted by the sound of a young woman's shriek.

Though disappointed by the loss, Renee turned to face the stranger, smiling softly as she did.  "Why... ?  Well because I find it relaxing... a good way to pass the time. ♪"

[Reaches out to pat April on the back, smiling softly as she does]  Well thank you!  April here is my horse. ♥  You're free to pet her, or any of the others, if you like ~!  They're all very friendly.

[Directs her smile at the woman] And it's very nice to meet you then, Miss Gwen!  My name is Renee. ♪

Ooooh! That’s really cool! We have a few farmers around, haven’t seen either of them much. And a guy who usually works next to my stall sells like farm animals! ?He smiles back, nodding his head/ And you’ll have to put your dog in! If the dog is old enough and listens and all that stuff! … Never actually did a dog show before. /Laughs/

/Sets the puppy down and picks the other one that’s left, scratching his belly, looking over at Renee and the puppy/ I think he likes you! /Blinks/ So, that guy huh…? /He stays silent for a moment before grinning at her, cheerfully responding back/ I think you’ve picked the right dog! You made a great choice!

Oh yes, I think I know the stall that you are talking about.  I have not seen it around yet, but I have heard it being mentioned.  ♪ [Shrugs her shoulders and laughs] Well first this puppy will have to be trained, but... we'll see ~!  Maybe one day he'll be good enough to be in a show.

Thank you!  [Looks down at the puppy and nuzzles her face softly against the top of his head]  He's very sweet and I'm excited for my parents to meet him! ♥ [Setting the dog back onto the ground, she looks at Rod with a smile] The only other thing I need from you is a collar and leash.  We have everything else already prepared at home!
