I’m gonna die I’m spending too much time theorising rn. Memories are altered/implanted/varying, so, hot take:
Eren time traveled. Don’t @ me
Grisha killed Mikasa’s parents to have her create ackerbond with Eren and guard him throughout his time travel mission; hence Kruger bringing up saving Armin and Mikasa, both yet unborn, to Grisha.
Fiery take, but: Grisha told Armin’s parents about civilization outside the walls to knowingly kill them and make Armin stay with Eren and Mikasa and fulfill some grand future scheme.
The MP at the crime scene were false memories. At court, even the MP note that this doesn’t look like it was done by kids.
Chapter 6’s title is “The World that the Girl Saw”. Corresponding to the spoiler memory fuckery theories: just because she saw it doesn’t mean it was real.
Maybe because Ackermans don’t fall under memory fuckery, Grisha/Eren couldn’t fully alter that one memory of Mikasa’s without her getting headaches. From the spoilers, it looks like she’s getting closer to the truth. To back it up, here are all the times she has had headaches:
1. Attack on Shiganshina. Running away with Hannes and Eren.
2. Attack on Trost. She saves Louise and remembers meeting Eren.
3. She chases The Female Titan who kidnapped Eren.
4. After The Clash of the Titans, on top of the wall, when she’s talking to Armin about being saved by Eren.
5. Louise asks her why she follows Eren.
Mikasa has been dead for years. The one we know is playing Mikasa’s part because she has her memories.
I’m getting sick thinking about it, but the more I do, the more I’m convinced that Armin will inherit all nine titans (if Isayama has really thought it through so far ahead). He seems to be the narrator in the anime. In the S1 opening, there is a shot of candles burning out - all but one.
