my favourite Logan & the Hernandez twins headcanon:
Logan was scared of them for the longest time.
Logan was picked on, intimidated by, and bullied by Barron already before the start of season 1. And high school sport teams are… well, pretty known for being very boisterous, loud, and openly supportive of their teammates. And Barron was a part of the baseball team, which is most likely exactly the same. Heck, I wouldn’t even be that surprised if at least one of the friends we see him with during the arcade arc is actually his teammate. You know who else is a part of the baseball team? Tyler, with Taylor as the honorary member atp with how much time she spends with the team because of her brother.
So when Logan ended up being in the same group as the twins for the group project, he genuinely thought that it would end exactly the same way it always ended with Barron: with Logan doing all the work for Tyler and his sister, and they won’t take no for an answer. After all, they’re both the popular kids of the school, Tyler is Barron’s teammate and Taylor is very close to Tyler, which means she’s also close to the baseball team, which means she might be close to Barron. With how crude Tyler sometimes acted or expressed himself, Logan wouldn’t be at all surprised if he was a close friend of Barron, too.
Sure, he’s never seen the three be all ‘buddy-buddy’ with each other, but he’s seen them talk a couple of times, so maybe the twins are just like that. Not that Logan would know or particularly care, really - it was enough for him to know to stay away from them.
He saw Tyler help a fellow classmate gather their stuff when they fell and stay late after a school event to help the staff clean up, he saw Taylor lend out somebody her notes and stand up to some rude guy picking on a younger student, but Barron also acted nice in the beginning and to appeal to the people around him, and Logan wasn’t willing to fall for it again.
During the scene in the hotel, Logan doesn’t decide to sleep on the couch because Tyler looks grumpy and hard to please, or because he’s intimidating all by himself; it’s a fear Logan has been developing for some time now, feeling cautious and nervous whenever the twins are close. They don’t look like bullies, and they haven’t once tried to pick on him (except for that one time Tyler told him that what he said was sarcasm in an irritated tone… but it barely even counts, he thinks; it’s nowhere near what Barron puts him through), but he still doesn’t know what they’ll be like when they’re alone, and he’s scared to find out.
It takes some time for him to warm up to them, but it happens, eventually, and the bridge is finally crossed the first time the twins stand up against Barron for him. That’s when he finally finds out that the twins aren’t really that fond of Barron in general, and more importantly, they’re willing to call him out on his bullshit for picking on Logan. The seed of trust is planted.
Maybe they’re not just playing being nice, after all? Sure, Tyler is rough around the edges and all, but he’s not a bully. Sure, Taylor is everybody’s friend, but not because she thinks it benefits her, but because she’s genuinely excited about people.
I find this all the more tragic if Tyler actually knew of Logan before the entire semester long project thing, but not just as a classmate, but specifically as Barron’s friend. Because Logan hangs around Barron and Barron always tells everybody that they’re friends (because, you know, there’s nothing suspicious going on. Nothing at all. You don’t need to worry). The twins seen him hang around Barron and his goons all the time, and they were a little wary of him, thinking he might be similar to him (only a little wary; more concerned, really. They both are perceptive, especially Taylor, and they can clearly see that somebody like Logan would under no circumstances become an actual real friend to somebody like Barron. But maybe they just don’t know something about him?).
It doesn’t take long for them to prove themselves both right and wrong: right in the sense that he was no real friend to Barron, and wrong in the sense that he was nowhere near to being similar to him.
