       ‘    Well , if I didn’t know better , I’d say someone broke in !    ’   The booming laugh seemed to startle the forensic kneeling by some shards , who let out a quiet curse and picked up the piece of glass they’d dropped , but if the fresh detective noticed he made no sign of it . Instead , he turned a beaming grin to the young prosecutor    —-     whose expression quickly dimmed the smile on his face . 

      Shifting , uneasy , Gumshoe fished out the pencil he kept behind his ear and tapped it against his notebook in an attempt to divert his nerves .    ‘     Uhh ... what do you think , Sir ?    ’

    That mind-breaking expression he wore --- Miles would like to think, with a sense of pride, that he obtained it from his mentor; that soul-crushing blank stare of disappointment, the arms folded across his chest, and his tone? Equally as empty, directed towards his unfortunate partner who by all accounts hardly deserved this treatment. ( It was the Karma way! )  “One would assume a thievery case came with a dose of breaking and entering. Your observation skills are far above your station, Detective.” 

    “...” Though he’ll admit... as heavy as his accusatory tone had been, Miles was still a rookie himself. Broken glass... minimal clues... minimal witnesses... close enough, and one might notice him chewing the inside of his bottom lip. When he swallows thickly, his pride goes down too. He began to recall crime scene protocol word for word from the books he’d studied. “We should begin with a summation of the evidence we’ve gathered. Perhaps you’d like to assist me in interviewing both the owner of the establishment and the forensic team.”
