a surprise reunion | tanjiro & giyuu
It was comical the way their initial reactions seemed to match up, even their slow blinking was synchronized. Though once it registered, Tanjiroâs surprise turned to excitement. Surely, he would have picked up on Tomiokaâs scent nonetheless.Â
âTomioka-san!â Tanjiro was quick to close the distance between them all the while maintaining an appropriate space apart.Â
Giyuu Tomioka, the water Hashira, looked identical to that time. Tanjiro also resembled himself at fifteen years when he had become a full fledged member of the Demon Slayer Corps. From his understanding, heroic spirits maintained the form where they had either performed their heroic deeds or in their prime. âWhat a coincidence!â Tanjiroâs deep red eyes twinkled as he took in the sight of the long haired male in his mismatched haori.Â
âNezuko is here too! We were summoned together! Iâm sure she would be really happy to see you as well!âÂ
Tanjiroâs joy was practically palpable. âThis is nostalgic. I wondered if we would run into anyone familiar here. Canât say Iâm surprised that someone like you ended up as a heroic spirit. Have you found a Master?â
As usual, the boy seemed to have boundless amounts of energy, but there was a part of Giyuu who was glad he could still smile so brightly, still be so kind after everything that had happened. In a way, it was almost like nothing had changed at all, like he could simply close his eyes and pretend this modern city didnât exist--but these times were at least somewhat more peaceful. He supposed he should be grateful for that. He couldnât deny there was definitely something comforting about seeing a familiar face though as Tanjiro drew closer.
âI see,â he murmured. âThat makes sense.â The two had been inseparable from the moment heâd met them, from the moment he decided to take a chance on that faith of Tanjiroâs. It hadnât been for nothing, and though it didnât ever really show...he was glad heâd made that choice that day. âIâm glad the two of you still have each other, even in this strange situation.â
Though his expression hadnât really changed, it was easy for those who knew him to see that it had softened just slightly, like an older brother fondly watching his younger sibling. That assessment probably wasnât that far off when it came to his thoughts on the siblings.
âIâm sure there are probably more of us somewhere in the city. To think that people like us would be considered among such famous figures...â How strange would it be to see those who had gone on ahead of them and left them behind to finish things. He supposed he had mixed feelings about it, but he couldnât really be sure how heâd react. However, at the subject of his Master, Giyuuâs expression did change.
It almost looked like heâd just bitten into something sour, like a lemon as he thought about the one whoâd summoned him by complete accident. âYes,â he answered simply, brows furrowing. âI didnât think it was possible...but she has no idea about any of this. She summoned me by wishing she had a helping hand to tend to her garden...â
Should he be grateful for such a thing? A relatively peaceful life? He....honestly had no idea.
âAnd the two of you?â
