Mkono Poa housing co-operative society limited was established in the year 2017 and registered under the Co-operative Societies Act chapter 490 of the Laws of Kenya as confirmed by registration certificate number CS/22231 dated 7th November 2017 and signed by the registrar commissioner for co-operatives. Mkono Poa has its head office located at Nairobi County, Ruai Town, Ruai Plza, Fourth Floor, and Opposite Equity bank Ruai Branch along Kangundo road. Going by Government statistics, over 80% of Kenyans living in urban centers dwell largely in slums where they rent houses that are normally in deplorable conditions. Mkono Poa was founded on the premise that acquiring a decent and affordable home to an average Kenyan has just remained a pipedream. The founder members including the current Chairman Mr. David Mbogo Namu, a strategic business manager and an entrepreneur, had a vision to ensure that average low income earner “Wanjiku” had a place he/she can call home. Ordinarily ‘wanjiku’, would find it extremely difficult for instance to raise a lump sum of ksh300,000 to buy a cheap piece of land in Kenya. However, at Mkono Poa the process of land acquisition by “wanjiku” has been made easy and convenient. Mkono Poa employs economies of scale in acquiring low cost land which it then sub-divides into eight acre plots. The plots are then allocated to its members at cost and again by way of affordable monthly installments. The legacy of Mkono Poa is well defined by the slogan “you need a place you can call home, the journey begins now”. With prudent management of its resources mkono Poa is sure “wanjiku” will be a proud owner of a plot at a cost of a fraction of the market price. Further Mkono Poa reserves a few of its plots in every phase to appreciate in price and later dispose at normal prices. The surplus realized from sale of reserved plots are then used to pay dividends to its members to improve their financial status Mkono is a Swahili name meaning hand while poa is a sheng name meaning safe. Therefore, Mkono Poa means safe hands which is a demonstration of its resolve to uphold integrity and ensure safety of members funds in this long journey that will culminate to each member having a place he/she can call home
