One of the things I love about Marinette is that she starts out as a reluctant hero. Sure, she gives it her best shot, but her first mistake is catastrophic and affects a lot of people–and, like any other person faced with this, she runs, afraid of causing more harm than good by trying to fix what happened (which is me as heck). She even tries to pass on the responsibility to someone else, believing that she’s just not good enough.

Marinette is not a true “chosen one”. She had a choice: to either face the consequences of her actions, or hide and wait for someone else to fix it for her. The decision she made at that crossroads is what makes her a superheroine.
