in the picture of me with my dog I was 9. for my whole life up to that point I was really sad. I felt like something I had been conditioned to believe was impossible.

in the forest, I was 13. I had realized recently prior to this picture that I was some sort of Not Cis. I identified as non-binary and I went through every boys baby name on the internet and settled on Kyle.

in the picture of me pretending to hold a pencil in my hand, I was 16. I had been out as trans for a few years and I was still going strong as Kyle. I faced a lot of adversity seeing as I was in public school and I was out to every person who once knew me as someone else. confusion and ignorance breeds contempt.

finally, in the yellow shirt, I am sitting across from my wife, I am in college, I'm Sebastian now, and I have a brand new olive green binder that sparks a lot of joy. i never thought I'd get here. but I did. stay hopeful.
