This image is very powerful. This old image shows some of the problems in South Africa. This image was taken during the apartheid and shows segregation. People surrounding the black man appear uncomfortable with his decision to sit near white women. This sort of resistance is similar to Rosa Parks’ resistance in the United States. One of the themes visible in this image is inequality and race in the 20th century. Inequality in South Africa was a big issue back in the 1900s. In the documentary “The Rise and Fall of Jim Crow”, we saw inequality and segregation in the United States. We saw the struggle in politics and society which is very similar to South Africa’s problems.
