Okay, so I know a lot of people imagine ageswap to also include the swapping of roles, but I personally am against that (although it IS fun to see how characters fair in different positions). Can you just imagine this deadpan man in his late 20s being called upon by this 8th grader for an exorcism job and calling him Master infront of other people and clients? Hilarious. Give me more.
You can also explore Reigen's family dynamics and maybe tie this into why he's even hanging around with Mob for such a long time! Maybe his family life is fairly strained all around unlike Mob's in canon, so the best adult in life he has is, yours truly, Mob, who's an esper with power beyond what one can fathom.
The first few episodes are shown focusing on Reigen in canon, so maybe this AU would focus on Mob and then finally introduce Reigen by having him be called into that job from the client, Hanako and her boyfriend, Taro. Yes, I remember their names. I've rewatched this show far too many times already in a short frame.
Anyway! I was thinking about the Clean-Up arc, and I was thinking— but here's some context first!
Mob and Ritsu work at the same boring office company, but without Reigen's guidance during his childhood and lack of socialising, Mob is an emotionally repressed and stunted mess. I think this would lead to his powers sometimes showing up during his near-breaking points.
So Ritsu, as any brother would, and as someone in a higher position, convinced his older brother to work remotely in his own little office space. This is both from fear of his brother hurting others and of, like... protectiveness of Mob, I guess?
It's not very fleshed out, haha. Most of this I came up with on the spot on my main blog, haha.
Oh, right, Clean-Up Arc. Ritsu, with Shinji Kamuro (I think that was his name?), begin framing other employees at the company, starting from lazy workers to workers who did the smallest of mistakes. Yada yada, Im kind of polishing the rest, but he gets powers and he and his brother have a heart to heart!
Yay, brotherly bonding! And then Ritsu is kidnapped. Wah.
I may draw some scenes if I'm feeling up to it... I don't know...
Oh, I should mention how the job-aspect of this even works in this AU.
So, Reigen is still the one who runs the consultation, but it just starts out as an unpopular exorcism club in his school until he meets Mob during Dimple's whole LOL Cult episode.
After seeing the dude literally destroy a (high-level) evil spirit, it goes kinda like this in my head—
Mob, muttering: "I'm... terrible..."
Reigen, a few scrapes from the ordeal but runs over to Mob: "Tha... That was so COOL?! That guy was some spirit the whole time?!"
Mob, turns around to see that kid from earlier: "O-oh— I, uhm— ... Thank you—? Yeah— he was..."
Reigen: "Holy shi—" Shakes his head and clears his throat seriously, "A-anyway! So, you can melt spirits, then?"
Mob: "... Hai... What do you mean by 'melt'—?"
Reigen: "Hey, you should join me! I'm Arataka Reigen, the greatest Psychic of the 21st century!"
Mob, thinking: 'But... He doesn't have any aura... ... Oh, maybe he learnt how to hide it.'
And then cue Reigen not leaving Mob alone until he gives in. Think of Tanjiro around Tomioka during the Hashira Training Arc—
Mob: "Having a student sounds like a lot of responsibility. I don't think I can handle that."
Reigen, genuine: "Huh? Who said I'd be the student?"
Reigen: "Call me Shishou!" >:D
