Did you go to SJMUN?
Nope!
Ugh this is sad
I'm sorry you feel that way.
I'm going to my first MUN next weekend! I'll be representing Albania on ECOSOC, any tips?
Neither of us have represented Albania and/or done ECOSOC but check our advice tag for general tips and tricks! :)
Being less than a month from a conference and not having your country assignments
i seriously love MUN and this blog and it's giving me so many emotions i just can't! MUN is finally starting up for me again. any tips on becoming a better delegate/speaker? mostly for big conferences, i get really nervous about getting up to talk. also, tips on writing better position papers and resolutions?
We do have tips for both of those! They are mostly in our advice tag and I would strongly suggest looking there! If there's a specific question you have after looking, I'll be happy to answer it! :)
Oh my goodness have you heard of World Peace Game? It's like MUN for 9-year olds, just not the UN.
I have not!
I want to become a chair next year. My dream position would be security council, but everyone says it is too competitve and based on seniority. Do I have a chance to become SC chair on junior year, or should I first become chair of a less important comittee such as ECOSOC or Historical Security Council?
Don’t worry, I didn’t forget about you! Just because we don’t answer questions immediately doesn’t mean we didn’t forget! You have to remember one of us (the more active) is a freshman in college taking 17 credits. That’s a lot. The other (who is less active) is currently applying to colleges and quite busy with 6 AP classes.
And to be quite honest, I really don’t know. Neither of us has ever been in the position where one of us wanted/tried to apply for a Chair position. My gut reaction would be to tell you to become the Chair of a less important committee and just give it your all. Really put 150% in it and show you’re super committed. That, or become a less important position on the SC so you know what it will entail. Again, you’re going to want to give it your all. Sorry for the super limited response, but neither of us have ever been in this position!
I'm really stuck with the position I've been given. I'm in the human rights commission representing the U.A.E. Exactly haha. I can't say anything because other people will be like sit down, shut up, your country still uses capital punishment and all that jazz. So I don't know what to do :(
I mean, if you’re worried specifically about capital punishment, don’t forget the United States still us capital punishment, as do many other countries! It is a hard one to spin, but you need to be 100% committed to your country’s ways of thinking and politics. It kind of sucks, because no one wants to hear your opinions (I was the DPRK on the human rights commission once, so I know exactly how you fell haha), but you have to try and spin everything your country does and believes in to a positive light. Also look for any (they might be few and far between but still) progressions in human rights. Doesn’t matter how or who they help, but any advancement in the past 5-10 yrs could help you. Good luck! :)
Any advice for someone that is new to MUN and not that great at formal public speaking? My paper might not be that great either LOL i'm a B average student. Also, i've heard that some people drink at the Midnight Crisis?
I’ve never done that during MC, mostly because everyone knows we’re all high schoolers and the Conference would never support that. People might drink during/after a delegate dance but again, I’ve never done that.
Also write down what you’re going to say before you say it and read off the notepad! Speak clearly and be confident! This was something I’ve always had to deal with, but reading off a notepad helps a ton!
hey! i have a question! i'm at an mun right now and i try to be very activ, but because of that the chair is ignoring me now, what can i do?
Have an opinion on everything that comes up and make yourself be noticed! If that still doesn’t work, confront the chair after a session and say something like, “Hi, I noticed that you never really pick on me and I really want to contribute!” something like that.
Hey! I'm getting really excited about all of the upcoming models in my country and I have recently become one of the tutors within the Model UN group at my high school (I'm a junior and will be teaching freshman and sophomore students). I was wondering if I could get some recommendations from you about creative activities I could organise to practise Model UN with my little students. Apart from that, do you have any specific advice on teaching Model UN? Thanks a lot. (:
Please don’t hate me for answering old messages now I was too depressed before
We did LOTS of practice committee sessions, informed them of ALL the rules beforehand, and even quizzed them if the conference was important! Make meetings mandatory and make it fun!
ohmigod I love you and can relate sooo much. Have you heard of SUSMUN?
Yes! My high team went/goes every year!
Guess what bitches?!
This blog isn't dead! I'm continuing MUN in college!! I'm super excited about it and that means I'll have more feelings and more posts!! It might take awhile as I signed up today but seeing as originally I was just going to leave this blog to die, that's no longer the case! Expect our posts coming back later this early, or possibly next semester; I'm just not sure yet! Love y'all!! :)
