I NEED A SEASON 6 OF ELIZABETH RUNNING THE HOSPITAL IMMEDIATELY!!!
with elizabeth as the new medical director, she starts a program to train and hire more disabled people at the hospital (doctors, nurses, janitors, etc), she restart iggy’s vocational program for the psychiatric patients because she knows just how important it would’ve been and how much it could’ve helped adam.
elizabeth, sometime in season 5, had gone to mia for help with her carpal tunnel to try acupuncture. now with a bigger workload, her carpal tunnel surgery proves to be a failure as her symptoms start returning and she’s absolutely terrified, she’s gone through it once already and now she has to do it all over again. not knowing where to turn, she begins to confide in mia. this time, mia tries a different approach, to focus on changing elizabeth’s habits and lifestyle to reduce symptoms, but elizabeth doesn’t want to slow down. as they spend more time together, mia learning ASL, elizabeth begins falling for mia.
karen returns to her role of looking after the medical director, now elizabeth, and there’s a whole bunch of shenanigans as karen becomes a sort of maternal figure almost to her.
ben gets a bigger role in the show, we get to see a bit more of his personal life and his interactions with the other characters outside of just interpreting for elizabeth. he becomes friends with agnes and iggy. personally i love the idea that ben is a CODA and a single dad to a deaf/HOH kid, and that he and iggy’s kids have playdates through this.
mia is bumped up to a lead and we explore her past as kevin and jules show back up in her life unexpectedly after she tries to move on. mia’s main storyline is grappling with her past and trying to change while also struggling with her own mental health, all while trying to help elizabeth as well.
iggy and mia become friends through a shared love for gardening and their passion for mental health/helping their patients heal psychologically, and it’s iggy who realizes that mia may be autistic. she has to go through a journey of self discovery etc as a late diagnosed autistic woman and everything in her life suddenly feels like it makes sense. we get to explore her childhood and past, what drove her into holistic medicine etc, but as she begins developing feelings for elizabeth, her parents show up and bring up old wounds.
lauren and mia become friends and they often banter but it’s playful and there’s a respect for eachother now after mia helps lauren find an outlet through meditation, cupping, etc. they confide in eachother about their complicated pasts with substance abuse and also find understanding in their neurodivergence. they’re the AuDHD pair of your dreams and nightmares!!
leyla comes back and now that lauren is truly in a better place, it was a right person wrong time situation before, the two of them rekindle their love and are stronger than ever. happy gay people ensue with maybe some fights along the way because no relationship is perfect. she’s bumped up to a recurring character like wilder/mia in season 4 where she has her own cases and patients, and leyla takes up floyd’s offer to train under him in general surgery.
i feel like leyla and elizabeth would make a really good friendship, the both of them are resilient, strong women who know what they want and the intersectionality of their identities as a queer disabled woman and a queer POC would be really great too!
