People who say this seem to fail to realize they're outing themselves as someone who mistreats animals, views animals as less valuable, and something "safe" to bully.

I have yet to actually encounter one of these people personally but I've pretty much determined internally I'm going to say almost exactly that. "Hold up, how are you treating animals exactly?"

Call them out. Let them squirm.

Ohhh there are so many. But I think I'd have to go with any of the brahmin moths in the genus Brahmaea.

If our starving, weary, and hunted ancestors could care for the disabled members of their tribe, in this era of modern medicine and abundant resources we absolutely can afford to do the same.
