Blaze Eternal

Once upon a time, a golden girl was chained to her castle. All she could see was ruin and decay and all she could hear was rage. But in her mind, she travelled through many worlds. She thought that, once, she used to travel with someone. But those were the thoughts of the chained girl, so she put them aside and slid into her dreams.

A Study in Perspicacity

'I do not need to know how many shades of blue can be found in the irises of the Hero's eyes or that in a certain light they can match the Master Sword's hilt (a dubious assertion). Nor do I need to be made aware of how many individual sweat droplets he excretes while partaking in his early morning training exercises, which he apparently practises while half-nude. I have also yet to find myself interested in how long it takes for him to notice his hair tie is missing or that his hair is longer than it appears and smells of tea tree shampoo.' Or, Zelda discovers clouded eyes will never see the truth.

every day of my life i read someone being like “why doesn’t this story just solve the problem immediately and casually? they just drag it out and make it an issue” well. because that’s the Story

I only agree with this so far. If there is a clear and obvious solution with no in universe reason for the character not to do it, see it, or understand it then it really does just feel like spending 300 pages over something that could've been solved in 60.

I suppose it also depends how long you can suspend your disbelief. If it gets to the point where the entire book is based on plot contrivance then it isn't a good story.

something i find really interesting about (some) people who don't write is the way they'll elevate plot over execution? it's the way you'll sometimes see people who think they have a best-selling book idea, and they want someone to write it for them while thinking they should get the lion's share of the imaginary profits, because it's their idea. and don't get me wrong, ideas are important! plots are important!

but there are so many stories i've read over the years that could be summarized into a few sentences of bland-sounding plot, and it's the execution that matters. it's the writing. it's the writing!

a talented writer can turn a bland plot into a story you want to devour. and someone who only cares about ideas can take the most interesting idea ever conceived and make it unreadable/unwatchable.

like it does feel like there are a Lot of people in this world who don't view writing as a skill that deserves respect, and who think that really it's all about coming up with shiny ideas. and it does feel like that's uhhh infected a LOT of different things in the modern world. tbh.

And then on the other side, there's people like me who obsess so hard over the writing quality that we end up psyching ourselves out of even writing at all because obviously it's not good enough.

When I was 12 or 13, I complained about the TV show The Wright Stuff that my dad and gran were watching. I thought it was full of shit, although I didn't say that word back then. My dad agreed with me, but my gran said I would 'understand when I was older.' Almost 20 years later, I still don't understand that right wing bullshit.
