Those tags might have just been a joke but gay chickens? Please show us the gay chickens
With pleasure!
Cujo is an asexual lesbian. She won’t let anyone mount her, and I haven’t seen her voluntarily squat for anyone (or me). I don’t have any cockerels running in this flock because Cujo gets very distressed by having boys trying to court her or Blossom, her girlfriend. They share food, preen each other, and nest together it’s very sweet.
Blossom, Sooty, Kath and Wanda are all bisexual hens. They squat for hens and cocks alike. Kath and Wanda are also switches who like to mount hens if they offer for them.
Ginger, Juleo, and Glenn are all bisexual cockerels. They’ll mount hens but also squat for other cocks. Before anyone says anything about ‘submissive cockerels’ Juleo is top rank cockerel and Glenn is second, they’re not just sucking up to a bigger badder rooster.
My very unkept child Morgana is 11 months old and still doesn’t present as a cockerel despite being feathered like one. I’m planning on sending a DNA sexing test off for them to find out what sex they are. They behave exactly as you’d expect a pullet to, and they’re not just being a submissive cockerel because they run around in the day with Blossom’s flock (which has no roosters in it). Blossom certainly thinks Morgana is a hen and has taken to courting them haha, she has a thing for tall long tailed women it seems. I am thinking they’re either an infertile cockerel or intersex, but either way I refer to them as genderqueer.
Do my chickens actually have an understanding for gender and sexuality? No. Is this anthropomorphism? Yes. However calling my chickens gay doesn’t hurt them, and if it pisses off a homophobe then bonus points. I really do find the fluidity in which birds present themselves fascinating.
We stan queer poultry
