Monster Off

This is a blog dedicated to the amazing shows 'Face Off' and 'Monster Man'. Face Off is an American reality show on the Syfy channel in which a group of prostetic makeup artists compete against one another to create a piece such as those found in science fiction and horror films. Judge’s are Ve Neill, an Academy Award-winning makeup artist who worked on such productions as Beetlejuice and Ed Wood, television makeup artist Glenn Hetrick who worked on such productions as Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Babylon 5, and creature designer and director Patrick Tatopoulos who worked on I Am Legend and Underworld: Rise of the Lycans. Each week, artists will face a Spotlight Challenge and in some weeks a Foundation Challenge where the Foundation Challenge winner receives an advantage in the Spotlight Challenge. The Face Off winner receives $100,000 and a year’s supply of makeup, a “grand prize that will launch a career”. Please note I do not own any of these photos that are posted unless otherwise stated

I do apologize to everyone that I haven't been able to update. I have college, a job, two performances every week, four days of rehearsal, and doctor's appointments up the ying yang consuming my time. Sadly, I haven't been home when any of the recent shows have aired.

I'm sorry everyone, but if someone would like to colead it with me, PLEASE message me and we'll discuss.

Yes, of course. But truth be told, I don't have much to say on the subject. I've been rather away from computers and tellys for a while so I haven't really had the time to check out a bunch of the commercials :(

I'm honestly rather conflicted, for they are all wonderful pieces. I feel as if Anthony's work may be my favorite though . . . we'll see.

Review: Alien Apocalypse

Anthony (Mutant and Libberata) – I found the lumps that Anthony created on the neck to be rather interesting and when he was able to finish on time, it was rather grand. However, I’m not sure how I feel about the colouring of the makeup. However, the director did say that it was very accurate to the characters and it was just an overall great piece. I think it’s a great honor to him being able to work forward with Defiance. I feel as if he deserved continuing on to the finale.

Wayne (Bioman and Libberata) – I loved the facial piece that Wayne had created with the curved nose. However, you could tell that he was panicked over the fact that he didn’t have paint when the time finished. During Last Looks, he didn’t seem to have much paint on his creature from the start and it was just a worrisome moment. However, placing the rushed paint job aside, the prosthetics looked fantastic, my favorite still being the nose with the lips tying in a close second.

Eric F (99er and Sensoth) – You could tell from the start that Eric was having a sense of trouble that he was panicked over. Still, I liked the original sketch that he had designed because he did choose two very different species and I’m glad he came to eventually like the piece. But when it stepped on stage, it worried me that it looked like a creature from Planet of The Apes. I’m rather unsure of to how I feel about this piece. But still, I cried when he was eliminated, the first of the season. I couldn’t handle his leaving words.

Kris (Bioman and Mutant) – I loved the body piece that Kris had created from the start feeling that he was going to have great fun with the anatomy. However, when the plate stuck and the suit ripped in half, it was an absolute panic. But when his piece stepped onto the stage, it looked pretty cool. That being said, the teeth were just too funky for my liking and when he turned, you could see the ripping. I’m not sure how I feel about all of this.
