Roman Imperial Marble - Antonine Period, circa 160 - 180 AD. There are certain similitudes that can be observed between this work and a same period Roman bust of a Second Century AD Portrait of a Roman in Toga of the Age of Marcus Aurelius, in the collections of the Verona’ Archaeological Museum. This could let us assume, the Saint-Louis Art Museum example be that of an Aristocratic youth, for which the Verona example could be the ‘of Age’ later version. The latter, as well as an in profile bust formerly in the Briscati Collection, now at the Castello Ursino Museum in Catania, Italy, also marked as an unknown man, 2nd century AD, certainly help to ascertain the Period.
