Bow is interesting because he’s the only one of our core characters that isn’t afflicted by trauma. he’s the only one who chose to be a soldier. like.. despite being terrified of disappointing his parents, when you think about it bow was still raised in a relatively stable, healthy home, and his fathers—having experienced the horrors of war—were able to protect him from the same thing. he’s the only one with this kind of upbringing and its very much reflected in his cheery disposition.

BUT then you can compare him to scorpia, who has suffered some of the worst trauma from the war, since her parents like. sacrificed her and shes probably the last of her family AND she was raised by the people who killed them… and in the face of all that we saw in 4x06 how she wakes up every day and tells herself, ok scorpia, todays gonna be a good day, you’re gonna fight back the demons and work hard and stay positive and hopefully good things will come. and then there are our 3 protagonists who also represent different reactions to different kinds of trauma and idk man idk where i was going with this but im amazed how this show tries to capture like the spectrum of human experience

how to support autistic people this month:

don’t support Autism Speaks – it’s an awful “charity” that harms autistic people more than it helps them

do support organisations run by and for autistic people, such as the Autistic Self-Advocacy Network ( @autisticadvocacy​ ) and the Autism Women’s Network ( @autisticwomen​ )

don’t “light it up blue” for “autism awareness” – these things are heavily associated with Autism Speaks, and with the dangerous misconceptions it spreads about autism

do use the hashtag #RedInstead to fight back against #LightItUpBlue

do promote and celebrate autism acceptance (not just awareness!)

and, most importantly:

do listen to what actual autistic people have to say – we know better than our family members, “autism experts”, or any non-autistic person!!
