top 5 most fucked up looking kanji

#5 褒

as in 褒美（ほうび）. 保 really cut open 衣 and crawled inside its corpse

#4 臨

as in 臨時（りんじ）. too many holes :(

#3 淵

as in 深淵（しんえん）. what the hell is going on with this thing?? it's in a weird uncanny valley between 片 and 川. this shape doesn't show up in any other kanji i've seen

as in 咀嚼（そしゃく）. besides 口, all of the other radicals in this kanji are individually fucked up looking. it's like a chimaera, a mass of writhing flesh made more horrible by a single human head protruding from its body

have you all heard of 猫ミーム (lit. cat meme)? it was a big meme video format on japanese youtube a few months back and they're very silly but i think they're genuinely good reading practice.

basically the meme is that they take these stock tiktok cat footage and turn it into a story about their day or something that happened to them. there's no talking but they put words across the screen to show what's going on. some are definitely more unhinged than others but it's a really cool look into daily life in japan that's told in a funny way imo.

AU: SY trapped in one of his nightmares by LBG.

A person named Woland has really existed but never been the Devil. He's just a German professor (or maybe even a spy) who actually arrived in Moscow for work.

He and the Master only meet once – at Griboedov's, but the Master gets so impressed by the casual acquaintance that starts writing a novel about "the Devil who no-one believes in and who decides to visit Moscow personally". Over time, because of all the stress, the writer begins losing his mind and suffering from hallucinations. But even having been taken to prison and then mental hospital, he keeps writing his book.

Whereas Woland finishes all his business in Moscow, gets back to Germany and lives there relatively calmly (it's still the 1930s, isn't it). And he won't ever know there's a half-crazy soviet writer who's right now writing a novel all about him as Satan and hallucinates him coming around.
