Borgesian Bestiary

It’s practically white nights. Combined to what I like calling jet lag but what is of course just a lack of discipline, it is perplexing, to have a very light dusk saturating the room at 3 AM.

I keep watching 3D movies in the air, directed by specters and consisting of unusual combinations of usual and marvelous events; remembering what should be done immediately and what would never be done; regretting, lamenting, reproaching myself; scheming on how to avoid situations which won’t be repeated anyway; trying out new replies in conversations which long fade out, and otherwise enjoying this strange time of suspension in-between worlds.

The owl of Minevra flies out in dusk, Hegel said, but he did not list other crepuscular creatures which present themselves to one’s astonished sight in a kind of parade on a white night; they are many, a whole Borgesian bestiary, I trust.

This is my archnemesis, Icarus.

She is an imprint Great Horned Owl, so that means she is a total punk to everyone. She is one of the best program birds, but she is super territorial with her enclosure. Even passing by her flight cage will send her flying talons-first towards your head, only to be stopped by two layers of mesh…
