@morpheius just subbed! / his full name… morpheus knew the child before him as samson, so when prompted to call him by this ‘full name’, green eyes cast a meaningful look. the mask morpheus wears gives the impression of neutrality, but his gaze says ‘ i know. i know your name. i know who you are ’. a pause. slowly a smile forms despite morpheus’s efforts to restrain it. “ okay … tamathy. ” uninhibited, the smile grows, and eventually, morpheus bursts into laughter, clearly amused by his own joke. 

WHAT’S YOUR NAME, MAN? throwaway line he spouts off with a grin- tamasin gestures wildly, swinging arms and wiggling fingers- boy calls himself samson cuthbert- regular human whose run away from home ( he says in parentheses. ), no powers, nada, nil, zilch! he says this, but revokes the skin at the drop of a hat- hardly keeps up the act around anyone, actually; boy of arrogance, boy of sin! 

call me by my real name, morpheus- is that a challenge; ‘human’ incarnate? ( sometimes he gets over excited; shoot off at the mouth. ), when he stares down at him; eyes pierce through the helmet he bears ( he knows him, knows him thoroughly; the prodigal son, the weapon child, infernal rascal! ), and tamasin nearly falters in his gaze; but he stands tall, anyway, fists balled and eyes stare at him, confidently.

then his face scrunches up- tamathy? ( everybody’s gonna know your name! what’s your name, man? ).  is he just messing around? what the fuck? there is half relief at the wrong name, half pride at the right name- face in the in-between of a smile and a scowl. 

he decides to pull out his sword and whacks him, voice raised high-pitched, “    that’s NOT MY NAME!!! ohhhh, wouldja like it if i called you morphine? okay, morphine, ello, morphine, i am a green bald bitch and i don’t want to give big man tam his discs because i am so uncool!!!     “  goes off like he’s mad, in the midst of the laughing warrior, “     oooh, i am mister morphine, i ain’t got no face and i am stupid- dipshit, yer a real piece of work, y’know??? it’s tamasin, bitch!!! tam-a-sin!!!     “

oooo i like the sound of this! being forced to work together due to circumstances during or even after the war. there’s obviously contention there because they were / are on opposing sides during the rebellion, which could be cause for some interesting conflict if circumstance brings them together. morpheus & nadeia could even find themselves with similar motivations / goals during nadeia’s villain arc?

it’s too late, i’m already in tears!! i’ll elaborate on this when i write some more headcanons / finish up morpheus’s info page, but i think phoebe is one of the few people morpheus interacted with unselfishly. there’s seemingly no reason why he begins following her around, but the truth is that it’s really that simple. he isn’t following her to manipulate her, or surveil her in any way. he just .... thinks she’s interesting. as a knight, phoebe gets to decide what cause she’s fighting for. she gets to decide what her code is. she gets to discover for herself what the right thing to do is. as the champion of the dream-god ( again, gotta finish that information page! ) morpheus doesn’t always get to decide those things for himself. so he looks up to her, in a way.

their dynamic is so messy & i love it. morpheus treated tamasin badly. there were good moments, rare moments of sincerely where the two of them really connected. but that doesn’t outweigh the bad. it doesn’t make the hurt he’s caused okay ( even if it wasn’t always of his own accord ). the prison arc really gives them time to untangle that mess and decide who they are to each other. enemies? strangers? friends? even they don’t know.

listen tv ..... you already know how much i love antiphonus & morpheus. there’s SO much potential there. them having a history before war breaks out & even when they find each other on opposing sides, they still care about each other. “enemies” in the non-traditional sense, where they never really hate each other ( though they may pretend to ). slowly & surely, despite everything, falling In Love? all i do is listen to flowers from hadestown and think about Them.
