With a party hat lopsided on his head as he sat beneath the faded streamers, Kennedy couldn't help but feel guilty about the celebration unfolding around him. Who else in this mall would have the bright idea to throw a celebration in the midst of the chaos? Well... him.
Even now, six months after the world had ended, there was still a sliver of hope deep within his soul. Sitting in the middle of Petey Possum's, surrounded by paper plates, cheap decorations, and people who'd forgotten how to laugh until tonight, he couldn't shake the feeling that everyone deserved this. An excuse to stop surviving for a few hours and simply exist.
Or maybe that was just his mind overworking a way to justify the whole thing.
Still, the pizza wasn't so bad. Actually, it was better than he anticipated. Finding himself even eating the pieces that some folks have left behind. Hopefully, they weren't expecting them to be there if they ever returned. It was somewhere between his fourth and fifth rescued slices that he noticed someone watching him. Kennedy froze with a guilty look, still chewing the last bit of the crust.
"...I'm sorry about that..." He said as he tried to sneakily wipe the corner of his mouth, looking around the strange scenery. "I haven't exactly been to a rager like this since I was..." He paused, pretending to calculate. "...Eight?" Lowering his voice into an exaggerated whisper, he threw both hands into the air, flashing clumsy rock-and-roll horns and sticking his tongue out. "But we’re blowing the roof off tonight!"
