In the late 1990s, an outbreak began as a mutation of a virus, spreading quickly throughout small towns all over the united states. The outbreak, dubbed "The Ghost Flu" seemed to be like any other seasonal illness, until the infected began mutating into grotesque zombie like creatures. The government declared martial law, but as the virus spread, the military lost all control.

Now nearly ten years later the survivors are living in a fractured world where the small town of Salvation, Texas is a shiny beacon in Texas's mostly deserted and vast landscape. The population of Texas has dropped dramatically, leaving behind only those who survived and scavenged, a few fortified Enclaves, and the ghoulish creatures that once called the place home.
