Ch 1 Beautiful Days |【A Better Person on Paper】| Shuuya | attn: Hideki
It wasn’t Shuuya’s first visit to the pantry today. It was, however, the first time he had encountered someone else in the room. The boy with blue hair wasn’t someone he recognized, but that was fine. Shuuya didn’t have to speak with him, after all.
He tried waiting until Hideki left, to go about gathering food from the pantry. It was kind of embarrassing, how much junk food he ate, and he wasn’t looking forward to anyone commenting on it. It wasn’t his fault that no one had ever taught him anything about cooking! For whatever reason, though, the other boy was taking forever. And Shuuya had never been very patient.
With a small noise of irritation, he slid in place next to Hideki, nudging the boy lightly with his elbow.
“Move over.”
Only after grabbing a few bags of chips from the shelves in front of him did Shuuya finally notice what the other boy was doing, stuffing his pockets with junk food. He looked Hideki up and down, appraisingly, before nodding at him with a small smirk.
“It’s good to see someone else with the same attitude towards Takagetsu’s suggestion about rationing.”
As Shuuya’s attention returned to the shelves in front of him, the corners of his mouth twitched upwards. Maybe he’d get the chance to trash-talk some of their other classmates with Hideki. So far, that was the one thing that brought him an inkling of happiness in this shitty situation.
Hideki grunted and conceded when pushed over, shooting an annoyed glance but not saying anything at first. Truthfully, he preferred it to being watched over and feeling the impatience of the other boy while he went about his business. It made him feel like a kid with a disgruntled parent.
He was right about the rationing, at least. As soon as that irritating blue person had suggested rationing, Hideki felt a spiteful desire to take as many chips and snacks as he could physically carry in one trip. With that plan in mind, he had entered the pantry and immediately began grasping at every small bag and package in sight. As soon as his jacket pockets began bulging, he’d zipped the thing up, tucked it into his pants, and started stuffing them down between his jacket and his shirt.
“That blue guy trying to step up like we voted him leader pissed me off. I don’t take kindly to orders. Not that we’re in the right place for that mindset, apparently...this is a real drag, but I won’t let it stop me from living my preferred lifestyle. ”
Hideki paused in his jacket stuffing to look at what the other boy was actually taking. Just as much as him, apparently. He’d let it slide, but not without making his own declaration.
“Don’t even think about reaching past me for anything. It’s an easy way to lose an arm.”
