it’s okay to walk away.
Don’t forget:
Having a bad day is alright. You’re allowed to have a bad day and still heal. A bad day doesn’t mean you didn’t make progress. You’re doing hard work and you are allowed to have a bad day!
Get Trigger Word Replacer Apps!
Hi, guys ‘n gals ‘n nonbinary buddies!
One of the things that always manages to trigger me is the unavoidable father’s day posts and articles that flood the web every June. Since a large part of my job requires heavy internet usage and presence, I can’t avoid it, but I can make it more bearable.
Cue the word replacement apps! They’re super useful for any sort of trigger phrase, and they’re all totally free. In fact, they can be kind of fun to use. For instance, I really hate seeing things on father’s day, so I decided to make the web look a little absurd. I navigated the app and had it replace any instance of “father” to “BB-8″ and any instance of “dad” to “spooky scary ghosts.” It can actually be really funny when I forget it’s on!
Here’s how it looks for me on my browser when I Google “father’s day”:
It’s clearly not perfect since you can still see images with the word and the search bar didn’t correct itself, but all of the words on the page itself are swapped. Definitely better!
Here are some helpful word replacers you can use anytime to replace any trigger phrases:
Word Replacer for Safari
Word Replacer for Firefox
Word Replacer for Chrome
Enjoy, and share any goofy replacements if you have them!Edit: If anybody knows anything for mobile users, please let me know! My best friend was searching for something during Mother’s Day and she hasn’t got access to a computer, so she had to stay away from the web all day. Thanks!
Free programming for the trans community launches in June, and will be hosted by transgender Sephora cast members.
“Sephora knows that it is a comfortable space for the cosmetically inclined, and for the past three years it’s been building up what it means to be that kind of community space through its store programming. In 2016 Sephora launched complimentary in-store classes for those experiencing major life transitions, Classes for Confidence. Up to this point, those classes have focused on workforce re-entry and beauty in the face of cancer, with participation from community organizations around the country. In June 2018, Sephora will launch a series of in-store programming around the country for the trans and nonbinary community, hosted and developed by transgender Sephora cast members. On Tuesday, May 22, the first preview class will be held in New York City.
“This is the third curriculum we’ve rolled out, and we couldn’t be more excited. It’s been two years in the making. It’s one of the initial programs we wanted to design, but we wanted to make sure we did it right,” says Corrie Conrad, Head of Social Impact and Sustainability at Sephora. Conrad has been spearheading the programming since joining the company a few short years ago. These classes and Sephora’s entrepreneurial bootcamp fall under her purview. “We held focus groups and worked with our employees experiencing their own gender journeys to help determine class content, sensitivity training procedures, and to help figure out which stores would make the most sense. The trans and nonbinary community is a beloved part of our community and we want to be allies. That’s the point of all our programming: Whether you’re entering the workforce or questioning your gender, that’s a major life transition. We want to be there for you.”
Besides in-store classes at 150 locations, there will be a series of video tutorials on Sephora’s various YouTube channels led by Sephora’s trans Beauty Advisors. Topics will cover color correction, smoothing the skin, and other topics suggested during focus groups with trans members of the community. If you’re an ally hoping to help support the program yourself, there’s a specific product line you can pick up next purchase that directly funds the programming. The SEPHORA COLLECTION Retractable Brush($24.50, in store and online) and the Sephora Stands FEARLESS lipstick($12.50, in store and online) both directly fund the community programming.

Dissociation! It’s really hard to define, and it’s even more difficult to notice when you’re doing it. Everybody experiences it just a little bit differently, but it’s something that can and should be managed with a little bit of mindfulness (noticing how you’re feeling without judging yourself for your feelings) and practice. I’ll make another post soon with a few clips from movies and tv that have characters dissociate since they’re great examples. Check back soon! :)
Here’s a thought I had about how therapy & treatment works (vs how many people imagine it works). This is based on my experience with depression and chronic illness, but I hope it applies more broadly as well.
Imagine you have to take a road trip on a deserted road alone. Halfway through the trip your engine starts to splutter and the car breaks down. What do you do?
A lot of people imagine that therapy and treatment is like calling a mechanic to come and fix your car for you. You make the call, and then you just have to wait around until the mechanic has fixed the problem, and your car is good as new! Unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that. There is no on-call mechanic. No-one is able to fix this car except for you.
Instead, it’s like you pull a toolbox out of the trunk, pop open the hood, and dial up the mechanic on the phone. You have to try and describe the problems as clearly as possible, and follow the advice they give you as well as you can.
Sometimes you won’t understand the advice, and you’ll need them to explain it again or suggest something else. Sometimes you’ll do what they say and the car still won’t run, and they won’t be able to explain why, only give you something new to try. Sometimes you’ll think you fixed the problem and start driving, and the car will break again two minutes down the road. No matter what happens, it’s going to be hard and messy and frustrating work.
But at the end of it, not only will your car be running again, but you’ll know how to fix it now. Which isn’t to say that you’ll never need another mechanic again, but next time you get stuck, it’ll be that little bit easier to handle.
So keep at it everyone, and good luck on your journeys!
All about EMDR! A lot of people have been asking me how it works, so I made a silly little comic doodle on Illustrator (just with my mouse, sorry it’s sloppy) about my experiences with it. *I am by no means a doctor, so please do some research on your own before making any decisions to do EMDR!*
I’ve also seen a lot of videos on Youtube of “DIY EMDR,” I would VERY STRONGLY recommend NOT using those. EMDR opens your emotional brain up so fully that it’s very overwhelming, and having a trained professional there to assist you is invaluable.
Hey, friends! Mod Coral here, I was diagnosed with Complex PTSD a month and a half ago, and I’ve started a blog detailing the healing process so far! :)

Life After Trauma 2nd Edition
If someone isn't available during your most crucial time, then their presence any other time is useless.
This isn’t realistic for adults. I’m sorry it’s just not.
Don’t fall into believing that, “if they’re a true friend they’ll drop everything and run to be by your side!” crap.
As a responsible adult there will be times that your friends are hurting and you won’t be able to go to them.
There are times that you will have to go to work, or take your sick kid to the doctor, or do many other things that will prevent you from being there for your friend.
When your friend calls you and they’re falling apart and it’s ten minutes until you have to leave for work, you’re not a bad friend for saying, “Look, I love you. I’m sorry this is happening, but I have to go. I’ll call you back tonight when the kids are asleep.” Or “I’m so sorry this is happening. I love you and I want to be here for you but I’ve got to get to work. I’ll call and check on you during my lunch.”
Adult life is hectic and busy with important things all the time and unfortunately it’s also full of shitty things happening to people we love.
Do your best to be there for the people you love and ask for support when you need it but be understanding when being a responsible adult comes before helping you.
The idea that people need to be there any time you need them is really damaging and unhealthy, too. You can’t place value on a person or a relationship based solely on whether or not they’re available, no questions asked, whenever you need them.
In addition to the above: sometimes, someone simply does not have the energy to help. Maybe they’re coming out of a rough patch themself, maybe they have been busy all day, maybe a chronic illness is flaring up. There are a myriad of reasons someone may not be able to be there.
Obviously, if someone is taking you for granted, and never seems to care how you’re doing, that’s an issue. But to write someone off because their life and your life didn’t line up quite right at a given point in time, or maybe even on more than one occasion, is not a healthy way to handle things.
i’m seeing a lot of people reblogging suicide hotlines and this is just a reminder that this is a suicide help line that works like a text-based instant messenger for people who may need to talk to someone but have trouble/are uncomfortable making phone calls
Never don’t reblog this. There are so many people who have such bad anxiety about phone calls. This can save so many lives
Also helpful if someone is in a situation they may not feel like talking out loud about their problems is a viable option (for instance if they live with a douchecanoe who would mock them for seeking help)
this vine made me 100% more emotionally stable
I reblog this person everytime I see them.

*Plz feel free to add other good news (even if it’s something small like you ate cheesecake THAT is good news)
This is a gorgeous post, everyone should reblog it to see the balancing side to the whole bad things happening in the world!
For everyone planning to kill themselves in the event of a Trump victory:
Don’t.
We need you. The world needs you. We’ve been through this before, in one way or another, and we have prevailed. Who benefits from your death? Only those who want you silenced.
There will be blue skies ahead. There will be triumphs. This is not the end of the world.
Do not go gentle - we are here today because of the stubborn refusal of our predecessors to go away. There are oases even in the darkest of times. You are not alone, and you have not been abandoned. There *will* be blue skies ahead, and you will live to see them.
