Welcome to ROTE microfic!
A few months ago in the discord server, we were mucking around using a prompt generator to generate conversation, and I wrote a couple of short silly fics. There’s something so appealing to them: the low barrier to entry, the so-achievable goal, the simple joy of finishing something. Writing in bites instead of meals, and packing as much flavor in as you can.
I wanted to write more, but I never did. Tracking down a prompt generator is extra effort, and I should probably work on my in-progress fics anyway, right?
Yet Microfics are an excellent way to warm up before writing something longer, to improve your skill as a writer, and to provide exposure therapy for posting dread (does anyone else get this? I do). They can be the roughest drafts, edited within an inch of their lives, or anything in between. They can be ten words or a thousand or longer even if the inspiration takes hold.
Microfics can be whatever you’d like them to be, whatever you need them to be.
l will post guidelines shortly, and I aim to have the first prompt up by this weekend (just in time for winterfest sign ups!). I will post a new prompt every two weeks unless it seems like a different posting schedule will be better. The prompts will be only one word. The goal is to spark your creativity: burn however you like.
