Perhaps, he deserved to give Alois more credit where it was due-- being able to point one's flaws out was credible, even to him. He rose from the desk as he sighed heavily, the redness still over his cheeks.

"What? You want to hear some sort of confession? That I would get on my knees and beg for your heart as the Earl Trancy? To hold your hand or something? What is it you want to hear most of all after these past couple of years, that I've hopelessly yearned for you?"

He fiddled with the ring on his thumb as he shifted his gaze. "Perhaps that's the truth you want to hear."

And he heard, speechless and wondered whether it was truly genuine. 'Perhaps' on his final words were not enough. Alois wanted it to be sincere.
