The healthy vegetable project in Sershul helps beat chronic malnutrition and provide variation in the people’s diet. In the village of Warod there are 20 family greenhouses but another 42 families who would like to have the opportunity which shows how successful they are.
Here I am with Sanga whose family share a greenhouse with her cousin. There are 11 adults and children who benefit directly from the vegetables.
Sershul, Tibet/China August 22, 2015
My name is Noemi Dupertuis. I am the project coordinator for Norlha in Tibet/China. Our organisation aims to improve the lives of people living at altitude in the Himalayas with sustainable, self-help projects. I have arrived in Sershul Province in the village of Warod to check up on the greenhouses that Norlha provides and subsidises. There are 92 families in five villages who have already built greenhouses allowing them to grow fresh vegetables for five months of the year. It is difficult to grow anything here at around 4,000 m. The people traditionally survive on their herd animals and by-products leaving a nutritional gap in their diet which has led to poor health.
