Still can’t believe I got to see Sondheim’s masterpiece in Taiwan.
Happy birthday to Robert. I drew the Black Forest cake with those colorful Taiwanese birthday candles on top. (The only reason I chose Black Forest cake is because I want to eat it)
It’s really impressive that they managed to squeeze three performances into a single day, and the entire cast still gave their all in every show.
I’m quite upset that the typhoon caused one performance to be cancelled. I mean, there were only four performances in total, and we lost one because of the stupid typhoon. Many musical theatre fans also couldn’t make it because of the postponement and the cancellation.
Seeing the show live is so different from watching the pro-shot. The lyrics, the dialogue, the melodies, and the choreography are all so beautiful and captivating. They reminded me that musicals are meant to be experienced in the moment.
The most memorable scene for me was when Robert proposed to Amy. He sang part of “Marry Me a Little” before Amy said that famous line. I don’t know why this production made that choice, but it deeply moved me. I cried when I heard Robert say, “Marry me,” while everyone else was laughing at the sudden and hilarious proposal. Then I cried even harder when I heard that musical arrangement.
To me, Robert could sense Amy’s anxiety and was trying to reach out to her. He was asking his friend to run away from the pressure of the outside world with him. But Amy wasn’t like him. He mistakenly believed that she felt the same way he did. I could really feel that sense of loss when you realize that other people—especially your friends—don’t see the world the way you do.
All in all, this show was incredible. I’m really sad that I only got to see it once
At first, I just wanted to draw them cuddling like two puppies. But then I realized it fit one of the prompts: “maybe in another life.”
The combined lyric is actually a beautiful mistake made by one of my favorite Javerts, Jeremy Secomb. I heard that during one of his Javert’s suicide scene, he accidentally began singing the final lines of Valjean’s soliloquy before correcting himself in the last two words.
The result was “Another story must go on,” a combination of Valjean’s “Another story must begin” and Javert’s “There is no way to go on.”
I think this beautiful mistake suits Valvert perfectly. Not only does it combine both of their lines, it also captures the story they should have had. They don’t need a new beginning—they need another story, one that can continue where theirs ended and finally mend the scars they left on each other.

There’s a saying that whenever someone thinks of the departed, flowers fall from heaven upon them.
So I thought it would be beautiful if, instead of flowers, stars fell upon Javert after he died whenever Valjean thought about his beloved Javert... (Green is Valjean’s eye colour)

I don’t know why I procrastinated in posting it here, but I was overwhelmed and moved when I finally saw him as Javert in Singapore. I might write another post about it, but I still need time to calm down and reflect.

After I saw Stanley as Raoul on 4/28 and found out that he is also a Phantom understudy, I had always wished to see his Phantom in Taiwan. To my surprise, he debuted as the Phantom on 2026/5/7 at the Taipei Performing Arts Center. Although I couldn’t see it, it is such an honor that Taiwan got his debut.
I was moved to tears when I got the message from my friend that he was the Phantom that night. I couldn’t believe that it came true that fast. So I drew this card, made some ribbon rose bouquets, and gave them to him yesterday.
I’m so happy for him, and I will keep wishing that one day I can see his Phantom.
(I also asked him to write down his favorite Phantom line, and it is “You alone can make my song take flight” 🥹 )
